JOB SUMMARY

This position is located in the Criminal Intelligence Division of the Police Department within the City of Oklahoma City and is under the direction of an immediate supervisor. This job classification investigates cases from a digital perspective by gathering and analyzing evidence from devices such as computers, flash drives, mobile phones, tablets, and other electronic devices and applying the principles, practices, methods, and techniques of computer/digital forensic analysis. 

VETERANS PREFERENCE

Honorably discharged veterans of the United States Active Duty Armed Forces, National Guard, and Reserve Forces who are not currently employed full-time by the City of Oklahoma City and who meet the qualifications for the position shall be given preference. To receive preference, veterans must submit verification of honorable discharge from the United States military service (Department of Defense Form DD214 or NGB Form 22) prior to the closing date of the vacancy announcement. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Conducts forensic examinations of computers and other digital media devices such as computer hard drives, external drives, cell phones, network devices, information systems and other devices that store and process digital media. Recovers digital and video evidence collected at crime scenes. Recovers data from damaged or erased digital equipment. Collects, processes, and preserves evidence in police investigations. Prepares standard and special reports. Makes court appearances as evidence witness and/or presents crime information. Maintains evidence files. Coordinates efforts with investigators to pursue criminal prosecution. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Forensics, Forensic Science, or a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a related field with work in Digital Evidence, Cyber Crime, Network or Internet Security and Digital Forensics. Possession of a valid Driver License (Operator). Possession of Certified Forensic Computer Examiner (CFCE) Certification within twelve (12) months of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion.

Note: The incumbent is hired as a Computer Forensics Investigations Technician. Upon successful completion of the training and probationary period, the incumbent is eligible for promotion to Computer Forensics Investigations Specialist. Computer Forensics Investigations Technicians receive eighty (80) hours of in-class training and four-to-six months of peer review practice. Training may be extended to allow for on-the-job experience. Successful completion of certification must occur within twelve (12) months of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Frequently exposed to light and glare of computer screen for extended periods of time. Travels to crime scenes; occasional local travel or out-of-town travel.

Note: Typical City employee working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, working hours vary (may require work to begin before 8:00 a.m. and/or end beyond 5:00 p.m., and/or may require work on weekends and holidays), and are subject to change, based on the duties and location of the position and the business needs of the assigned work unit/department.

PHYSICAL EFFORT

Manual and finger dexterity enough to operate equipment such as keyboards, calculators, etc. Strength enough to lift up to 25 lbs. Near vision enough to read and draft written communications or both manually and machine-generated reports, documents, graphs, etc. Hearing and speech enough to communicate in person and by telephone.
