The Hennepin County Sheriff's Adult Detention Division is hiring an Office Specialist, Principal to supervise the day-to-day operations of the jail property room. The duties of a property room supervisor are to maintain control and accountability of inmate’s property; interact with and handle inquiries from our residents, public, and business partners; maintain the property/destruction for released residents. Input, export, and modify information and data stored on computerized systems; work with HCSO finance and HCSO Crime Lab; record and update information, including financial data; write, prepare, and proofread specialized correspondence, lists, reports, and other standard office documents.

This position is internally classified as an Office Specialist, Principal.

In this position, you will: Ensure accountability of all inmates' property. Handle property claims. Prepare property for inmate release. Answer inquiries from the public. Utilize proper procedures for lost or abandoned property. Manage deposits, inmate accounts, and unclaimed funds. Need to have: One of the following:Three or more years of office clerical experience.30 months or more of office clerical experience and completion of the Office Specialist Pathway Training program.A combination of office clerical experience and post high school education, totaling 3 years or more (3 semester credits = 1 month). Nice to have: Effective attention to detail, well organized, and able to handle multiple tasks, deadlines, and requests utilizing appropriate time management skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat DC, and Criminal History databases. Effective verbal and written communication skills including preparing professional correspondence. Proofread numbers, correspondence, and other written materials for spelling, grammar, and format accuracy. Experience:Using an electronic record management system.Handling confidential and/or sensitive information.Preparing, retrieving, and maintaining files. Following written policies and procedures.Working in a law enforcement setting.Providing customer service and responding to questions in person, over the phone and by email.
