Duties

Replaces solenoids, relays, control modules, water pumps, fuel injectors, spark plugs, brake shoes, wheel bearings, ball joints, steering linkages, mufflers, radiator caps, engine gaskets, a variety of belts and hoses, tires, and complete assemblies such as removing old engines and replacing them with new engines. Adjusts brakes, transmission linkages, gear lash and bearing end play, engine idle, voltage and current control valves, sensing valves, expansion valves, and pressure regulator valves. Cleans or replaces filters, screens, battery cables and clamps, engine components, and heating and cooling devices. Services and checks air conditioning systems including purging and recharging systems, flushing radiators and replacing anti-freeze solutions, and aligning front ends of cars and trucks by adjusting caster, camber, and setting toe-in. May assist with, or prepare, monthly reports, requisitions for supplies and parts, job reports and vehicle labor and parts forms. Prepares reports using the computer using such programs as Word, Excel, and the FMSS programs.

U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period. You may be required to travel overnight away from home. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. Hazardous Response Team the incumbent will be required to undergo and pass an annual medical monitoring exam and be fully trained in OSHA's 29 CFR HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operation) along with respirator protection, chemical analysis and field characterizations. The incumbent is required to receive training and to obtain certificates in the following within one year of acceptance of this position: Hazardous Communication; Respirator Protection; OSHA's 40-hour HAZWOPER; Chemical Analysis and Field Characterization

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. (SCREEN OUT) Ability to interpret instructions, specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading) Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment. Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation repair, etc. Technical practices (theoretical precise, artistic) Trouble shooting Use of measuring instruments.
