OSP is recruiting for (1) Permanent position located in Central Point, Oregon at the Southern Command Center.

The Southern Command Center is a 24/7 dispatch operation with varying shifts.

What will you do?

You will be responsible for communication coordination between field officers, local and county law enforcement and emergency services, state agencies, and the public within a large geographic area encompassing multiple counties, cities and towns.  OSP maintains telecommunication centers in Salem (NCC) and Central Point (SCC), as part of a statewide regional command network. Your day-to-day duties will include answering multiple phone lines and monitoring and responding to multiple radio channels simultaneously. In addition, the duties of this position are supportive of the State Police teletype network, computer-aided dispatch, the statewide and nationwide networks, and their included databases.

About the Agency

The Oregon State Police (OSP) is a multi-disciplined organization charged with protecting the people, wildlife, and natural resources in Oregon. We enforce the traffic laws on the state’s roadways, investigate and solve crimes, conduct post-mortem examinations and forensic analysis, and provide background checks and law enforcement data. We regulate gaming, the handling of hazardous materials and fire codes, and educate the public on fire safety and enforce fish, wildlife, and natural resource laws. Learn more about OSP

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Three years of public contact experience in any position which includes gathering, relaying and providing information to others, in addition to evaluating activities and/or incidents and determining an appropriate course of action;

  • AND Keyboard (typing) speed of at least 35 words per minute;

  • AND High school diploma, a GED certificate, or equivalent.

*Successful completion of a Certified Emergency Communications Course may substitute for one of the required three years of public contact experience.

Preferred Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in a professional and articulate manner.

  • Experience receiving, disseminating, & dispatching emergency or non-emergency requests.

  • Experience with answering multi-line phones or working in an environment with constant disruptions where multi-tasking was essential.

  • Previous shift work experience.

  • Previous experience that required a high degree of accuracy, memory recall and attention to detail .

Special Qualifications:

  • An appointment to this position would be contingent upon successful completion of a Physical Examination;

  • AND Passing all applicable medical and psychological evaluations;

  • AND Passing all applicable background, credit and criminal history checks.

  • Must successfully complete the required courses and receive certification from the State of Oregon as an emergency services telecommunicator.

  • Applicants will need to demonstrate the ability to read and write at the 12th grade level as part of the selection process.

*Additionally, the recruitment process will include a typing test to demonstrate typing speed and accuracy and a CritiCall test, which tests for the critical skills and abilities needed to perform this job.
