Duties
Operate one or more types of gasoline or diesel powered engineering and construction heavy equipment in flat or rolling terrain environments. Use equipment to push, pull, pile, or load materials such as sand, gravel, or earth. Use equipment to transfer material into dump trucks and clear brush, tree stumps, and rocks.

You cannot hold an active real estate license, nor can you have an interest or hold stocks in firms with interest in Federal Lands. If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period. Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate special endorsements to perform the work of the position. Subject to the requirements of the Department of Transportation (DOT) drug and alcohol testing program, and is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Department of the Interior (DOI) Drug-Free Workplace Program. Required to wear all applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) associated with the job.
Qualifications
To qualify, there is no specific length of training or experience required; however, your resume must demonstrate enough experience to show your ability to perform the duties of a Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision. Examples of such experience include: (1) operating gasoline or diesel-powered equipment such as road graders, bulldozers, excavators, backhoes, or trench diggers in simple terrains; (2) operating equipment to push, pull, pile, or load materials; (3) conducting routine minor or lower-graded maintenance in the areas of carpentry, masonry, electrical, painting, plumbing, and/or welding; (4) interpreting instructions/specifications associated with heavy equipment operation.SELECTIVE FACTOR: This position has a Selective Placement Factor which is (A valid Class A Commercial Driver's License). You MUST submit documentation with your application package to receive further consideration. Volunteer Experience : Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Part-time or Unpaid Experience: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position.
Physical Effort: Heavy physical effort is used by the operators in constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of controls to operate the equipment and attachments. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Because of the location of some of the controls and attachments, the operators are frequently required to work in awkward or strained positions.
Work Environment: Work is performed in all types of weather, often in an open driver's seat or platform, on hills, slopes, grades, rolling surfaces, and forests. The operators are exposed to injury due to the possibility of the equipment overturning. They are subject to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, and fumes from the motor and exhaust.
Education
There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
