The Family Mediation and Evaluation service area within the Human Services and Public Health (HSPH) department is seeking a Family Mediator and Evaluator Supervisor to supervise a team of Family Mediators and Evaluators and support staff. The staff in this area are responsible for providing Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR): Mediation, Social Early Neutral Evaluation (SENE), and Settlement Conferences along with Evaluative Services: Pre-Decree Custody and Parenting Time, Post-Decree Custody and Parenting Time, and Parenting Time Brief Focused Assessment.

Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be performed both onsite at one or more Hennepin County Human Services Center locations and remote as job duties require. Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with flexibility to work evening and weekend hours if desired by the employee and if supported by a business need. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin. 


New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022, to December 31, 2024, will receive $500  toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.

This position is internally classified as Family Mediator and Evaluator, Supervisor.

In these positions, you will:  

Supervise mediators/evaluators, intake staff and support staff. Review, edit, and approve court ordered evaluations by mediator/evaluators. Provide regularly scheduled case consultation and support during daily operations. Manage case assignments. Select and develop staff, plan and assign work, and evaluate employee performance.  Coordinate service delivery and program development with key Family Justice partners and Family Court leadership. Provide training/orientation to newly assigned Family Court Judicial Officers. Develop policies and procedures. Serve as liaison to court and community agencies and other department programs. Manage contracts with community providers. Participate in determining program goals and objectives, evaluating programs, prepare reports and statistics, and assist with preparing budgets and proposals. Administer and enforce the employer/employee labor agreement and personnel rules. Conduct mediation and/or evaluation services. Involvement in integrated, multidisciplinary or community initiatives or community organizations, schools, health professionals and service providers. This would include identifying needs and assist in resolving program or service needs for individuals and families involved in disputed child custody and parenting time disputes.  Conduct presentations of services to various Family Justice partners and speak to community groups about family court matters.

Need to have:

Completion of a certified Rule 114 Neutral program in family mediation. One of the following:Master’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, law or an equivalent field, and two years of related work experience, one of which includes conducting child custody and parenting time mediations, evaluations, and Early Neutral Evaluations.Bachelor’s degree in one of the fields listed above and four years of related work experience, one of which includes conducting child custody and parenting time mediations, evaluations, and Early Neutral Evaluations. A valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
Nice to have: Completed Minnesota Supreme Court approved family mediation training, or court approved social early neutral evaluation (SENE) training. Listed on the roster of Qualified Neutrals under Minnesota General Rules of Practice - Rule 114. Experience and/or training in one or more of the following areas:Family counseling.Family or juvenile court.Child protection.Direct therapeutic counseling services.Guardian ad litem services. Experience:Conducting mediation or social early neutral evaluation (SENE).Evaluating and analyzing complex issues and writing comprehensive, persuasive professional reports.Interviewing individuals and families and handle high-conflict families. Facilitating group discussions and managing conflict. Ability to:Work effectively with an increasingly diverse client population, including people with English as their second language.Work in a fast-paced environment with the ability to multi-task and remain organized.Recognize and respect cultural differences and provide culturally informed services.Assess families around areas of domestic abuse, chemical health/mental health issues, and child development. Knowledge of electronic case management system such as the Domestic Relations Service (DRS).
