The Student Affairs Senior Office Assistant is a front-facing, administrative support role for the Student Affairs Unit within the division of Student Success. This is an exciting opportunity for someone enthusiastic about customer service, engaging visitor experiences, higher education, and administrative operations. Reporting directly to the Associate Provost of Student Affairs/Dean of Students, this role will primarily serve as the first contact with visitors to the Student Affairs office and create a welcoming environment. In collaboration with the Student Affairs team, they will coordinate operations of the front desk, support student workers, and lead administrative tasks.

This position is a Local 1205 Clerical Unit position covered by a collective bargaining agreement between Local 1205 Teamsters and The New School.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the initial point of contact and Student Affairs representative for students, parents/families, and staff, including referring students to appropriate resources and managing confidential information and interactions.
  • Support Associate Provost/Dean of Students administrative needs including calendar scheduling, coordinating and confirming meetings and monitoring of Dean of Student email account.
  • Oversee the daily functionality and operation of the Student Affairs front desk and common spaces, including supervising student workers as well as working with unit leadership to implement routine procedures and best practice.
  • Serve as the Student HR partner for Student Affairs. This includes working in partnership with Student Success HR Partner and Human Resources during the recruitment and hiring process of student workers.
  • Assist in the creation and implementation of the Student Affairs student worker training programming.
  • Schedule common spaces and meeting rooms for Student Affairs â‹and request special room setup and Audio-Visual when necessary.
  • Organize and plan special projects for the Associate Provost/Dean of Students.
  • Monitor the Dean of Students email and respond to inquiries at the direction of the Associate Provost/Dean of Students.
  • Student Affairs Senior Leadership support with administrative tasks such as contracts and invoicing via procurement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2 â" 3 years of relevant administrative experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on several new, continuing, or routine administrative projects concurrently.
  • Demonstrated collaboration skills with the ability to work well with diverse populations.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with strong computer skills.
  • Excellent communication skills: interpersonal, written, and verbal.
  • Must be able to work in a busy environment while maintaining deadlines, accuracy, and competing priorities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • BachelorâTMs degree.
  • Relevant experience in higher education.
  • Previous experience at an urban and/or arts-focused institution.

WORK MODE

Hybrid/Split - Employees hired for this position have regularly scheduled, consistent percentage of time on campus (eg: 1-4x/week) and also work some of the time remotely. #LI-HYBRID
