Description
The Research Lab Technician/Manager position is in the Laboratory led by Dr. Luis Queme in Department of Biomedical Sciences, University of New England, College of Osteopathic Medicine. The laboratory is located in the Biddeford campus. Our research is focused on the peripheral nervous system and the associated biological mechanisms underlying the development of chronic pain in the context of stress. We also have a specific focus between the interactions and cell-to-cell communication between primary sensory neurons and non-neuronal cells. We use a multidisciplinary approach involving a variety of techniques that include, electrophysiology, machine learning-based analysis of rodent behavior, real-time qPCR and RNA sequencing, multiple forms of imaging techniques using immunofluorescence as well as protein analysis via ELISA and Western Blotting.

Responsibilities
The Research/Lab Technician will assist with experiments that will include cell culture, electrophysiology, immunoblotting, DNA and RNA analyses, immunohistochemistry, and behavioral studies in animals. Experience with electrophysiology or basic programing skills are not necessary but familiarity with this is highly preferred. The laboratory seeks creative and passionate team players, with a strong desire to impact human health.
Managerial duties include all the above and handling the day to day upkeep of the lab, including administrative tasks, supply stock tracking, mouse colony management, training of students and potential development and troubleshooting of experimental techniques.

Qualifications
For the technician position, Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Neuroscience, or related field. Some prior biomedical or neuroscience laboratory experience, as well as laboratory rodent handling experience is highly desirable skill.
For the manager position, Master's Degree in Biology, Neuroscience, or related field or a Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Neuroscience, or related field and at least 5 years of relevant experience in laboratory bench work. Experience performing basic experiments, analyzing data, working with rodent models is required. Experience with behavioral experiments, python programing and use of linux OS, small animal surgery, cell culture, microscopy, and electrophysiology are highly desirable skills although not necessary.
The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational skills, a positive work attitude, and work well in a team.
