Purpose of Role

The National Tooling Reliability Engineer is responsible for supporting the Plant Tooling Reliability teams by creating preventative maintenance plans, supporting troubleshooting activities, creating training plans, and identifying opportunities for improvement. This position aims to maintain molds to deliver quality parts, maximize availability, and reduce operating costs.

Areas of Accountabilities

Invest in the Plant Tooling Reliability Teams.
  • Standardize and proliferate tooling maintenance methodology and training.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce external mold repairs by bringing new skills in house.
  • Strengthen collaboration amongst the plant teams.
  • Collaborate in hiring decisions for plant tooling team members.
  • Foster opportunities for growth into and out of tooling roles
Drive Tooling Reliability Best Practices
  • Create and monitor performance metrics for tooling assets such as availability, cost per pound, and mold change time.
  • Drive the execution of the preventative maintenance (PM) plans for tooling assets.
  • Partner with National Tooling Design Team to improve the PM content and documentation.
  • Work with National Processing to ensure tooling assets are being operated in a way to minimize wear and tear.
  • Identify for opportunities to proliferate the use of technology to improve our visibility of condition or eliminate routine inspections.
  • Develop a
    •Living RFQ
    • process for each tool to help prioritize and schedule external mold repairs and revisions.
  • Help identify and drive tooling revisions that will increase efficiency, regrind usage, or safety.
  • Partner with National Tooling to execute external mold repairs.
  • Drive the adherence to the Tooling Asset Transfer process and look for improvement improve.
  • Utilize internal and external repairs to drive toward Flash Free Shop Floor.
Ensure Mold Readiness
  • Be responsible for the mold readiness visual control and ensure compliance.
  • Partner with National Planning to develop improvements to the company-wide visibility of mold availability and minimize customer impact of planned outages.
  • Drive insert itemization of all tools both functional and cosmetic.
Critical Spares
  • Assist National Tooling with developing critical spare parts list at mold build.
  • Drive accountability to required inventory levels.
  • Look for opportunities to leverage National Spare Parts Process
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related technical field preferred
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in injection molding tooling repair and maintenance
  • Experience with Kraus Maffei Injection Molding Machines preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills.
  • Proficient in the creation of written work instructions and standard operating procedures
  • Strong problem-solving skills and experience with root cause analysis.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross functional technical teams and facilitate progress.
  • Data-driven, meticulous, and highly organized.
  • Ability and willingness to travel (up to 50%)
