Technical Product Owner

We are seeking an experienced Technical Product Owner to join the Data and AI Center of Excellence at IDEXX to manage products and projects for the Clinical Information System (CIS) Data Platform and successfully develop it into the Data and AI Platform of choice. The team builds and maintains the data platform used throughout the data asset lifecycle, from concept development through monitoring.

You will contribute to the definition and delivery of the platform that supports the development of Product Data across IDEXX's diverse clinical data sources and maximizes the reusability of data, infrastructure, and tooling across projects. You will elicit, analyze, validate, and document core requirements for the data platform and will be a critical liaison between our data platform team and consumers of the data to purposefully design and derive value from the data.

In this Role:
  • Assist with strategic direction for data product consistent with overall Data and AI COE strategy to mature and scale Data and AI capabilities across the IDEXX enterprise.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish policy and implementation for Data Governance, as well as a framework for federated scaling of data products.
  • Collaborate with Data and AI project management teams on research, risk, and compliance, to ensure data needs are met and aligned with business objectives.
  • Adopt standardization by design, optimizing cost and achieving self-reliance on core delivery practices.
  • Develop frameworks and methodologies for integrating, standardizing, and normalizing diverse data sets or data elements important across the enterprise (e.g. Critical Data Elements), ensuring consistency, accuracy, reduced risk, and increased utilization.
  • Design, develop, and incubate ongoing metrics, reports, analyses, and dashboards, to drive key business decisions for Data Products and work with stakeholders across the organization to understand usage and customer lifecycles.
  • Contribute to the prioritization and maintenance of an enterprise portfolio Data and AI product backlog to gain insight into how the platform should develop to maximize ROI for the team portfolio.
  • Act as platform ambassador, continuously improving and innovating the Data and AI Platform value-add. Promote data-as-a-product advantages and benefits to IDEXX employees, key vendors, and others.
  • Plan/lead/execute product development activities and projects through all phases. Create project plans, determine project teams, gather necessary resources, and implement projects. Manage projects, report on progress, and ensure successful conclusions.
  • Develop/maintain knowledge of Company products and services as well as changes and developments in the industry affecting work activities. Stay informed about emerging data technologies, tools, and platforms, assessing their potential impact on data management and analytics capabilities. Interpret internal or external business issues and recommends solutions/best practices.
What you need to succeed:
  • Proven experience as a Product Owner/Manager leading Data and AI/ML projects.
  • End-to-end experience from data collection to deployment and monitoring of data assets and products.
  • Practical and theoretical knowledge of data structures, integrations, pipelines, and reuseable architectures.
  • Experience working in a product-centric company with teams of technical professionals in a cross-functional environment.
  • Prior experience with both a highly structured waterfall development project as well as a more dynamic agile development project. Basic project management skills and abilities, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams in a matrix environment.
  • Solid reasoning and analytical skills to resolve issues and perform prioritization exercises.
  • Ability to work effectively in teams as well as independently across multiple tasks while meeting aggressive timelines.
  • Willingness to embrace change, constructively negotiate constraints, and effectively leverage resources to create exceptional outcomes.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, able to explain complicated concepts using easy-to-understand language.
Additional Desirable Experience:
  • Experience with Databricks
  • Experience with data platform migrations.
Education and Experience:
  • Master's degree or above in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, or related field
  • 6-8 years of experience in roles as Product Owner, Product Manager, or Program Manager for the development and deployment of data solutions and/or platforms
