OUTPATIENT PSYCHIATRIST

We are looking for a skilled outpatient psychiatrist to provide medication management and psychotherapy to Veterans with a wide range of mental disorders. The psychiatrist is a member of an interdisciplinary team that includes therapists and administrative support staff.

The Richmond VA Medical Center, located in Richmond, Virginia, is a 349-bed tertiary care facility offering a wide variety of medical and surgical services including spinal cord injury, polytrauma, and transplant care. There are five community-based outpatient clinics located in Henrico, Charlottesville, Fredericksburg, and Emporia, and a strong and mutually beneficial academic affiliation with the Medical College of Virginia. Full-time position with roughly 30 hours per week for patient appointments and the remaining time allotted for administrative duties (trainings, staff meetings, etc.) and following up on patient care (e.g., returning calls/messages)60-minute new patient appointments and 30-minute follow-up appointmentsCall (overnight, weekend/holiday coverage of inpatient unit, ED, and consults with psychiatry resident support) is currently optional for additional payPartial telework (e.g., 1-2 days/wk. from home) may be available after a brief period of satisfactory performanceSupervision of psychiatry residents may be available but is not required and a faculty appointment may be availableMust be a U.S. citizenMust have and maintain a full and unrestricted medical license from any U.S. state or territoryBoard certification in psychiatry is preferred

Major Duties / ResponsibilitiesAttend team meetings and huddlesReceive/make referrals from/to other team membersDiagnose mental disorder using DSM criteriaProvide psychiatric medication management and psychotherapyRespond to patient needs (e.g. return calls/messages, complete forms)Order relevant lab and imaging studiesOrder consults to other medical servicesDocument in the electronic medical recordAdhere to relevant policies and regulations

Compensation / Benefits:

Excellent compensation – Competitive salary ranges from $260,000 per year based on qualifications, with biennial market pay reviews

Performance bonuses are available for up to $15,000 per year

Excellent daily work schedule – Monday thru Friday – 8:00 am – 4:30 pm; a compressed (e.g. 4 days per week) work schedule may be available for this full-time position

Generous time away from practice – 50-55 days of paid time off per year, 26 days of annual leave, 13 annual sick days and 11 paid federal holidays

Up to 5 days off may be approved to attend approved CME for Full-Time Board-Certified physicians
