The Director of Data Engineering leads the data engineering team in designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and infrastructure. Shapes the company's data architecture and ensures our data systems are robust, efficient, and aligned with the company's business objectives. Oversees the development and deployment of data products, application programming interface ("API"), and other data solutions that provide actionable insights and drive business value. Provides ongoing support and maintenance for data engineering platforms, ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance optimization.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership and direction to the data engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. Provides guidance, mentorship, and training to team members to foster their professional growth and development. Stays current with the latest developments in data engineering technologies and best practices and provide guidance and mentorship to team members. Oversees the management and optimization of data infrastructure, ensuring reliability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Designs, maintains, and troubleshoots robust data pipelines to ingest, process, and analyze large volumes of data from various sources.
  • Leads the design and implementation of scalable and efficient data architectures that support the organization's business objectives and enable data-driven decision-making, leveraging technologies such as Databricks and Azure Fabrics.
  • Collaborates closely with business stakeholders, data scientists, analysts, and information technology ("IT") teams to understand business requirements and ensure that data solutions meet the needs of the organization.
  • Implement data governance and compliance measures to ensure the security, privacy, and integrity of our data assets and comply with Sarbanes-Oxley Act ("SOX") and personal identifiable information (PII) requirements.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Analytics or a related field required
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Analytics, or related field preferred
  • Minimum eight to ten years of experience in Data Engineering with experience building modern data platforms, designing, and implementing scalable data architectures and pipelines in Azure.
  • Proven experience in a leadership role, with a track record of building and leading high-performing data engineering teams.
  • Strong technical background in data engineering, with expertise in technologies such as Databricks, Azure Fabrics, Apache Spark, Python, and SQL.
  • Minimum five (5) years of leadership experience managing a department with direct reports. Experience mentoring a team of Data Engineers to allow for skill/knowledge development through advice, coaching, career planning, and training opportunities.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook. PowerPoint).
  • Deep understanding of data modeling, ETL processes, data warehousing concepts, and best practices in data engineering and analytics.
  • Proven ability to develop and deploy data products and APIs that drive business value and enable data-driven decision-making.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and delivering high-quality results.
  • A passion for driving innovation and continuous improvement, with a demonstrated ability to stay up to date with the latest developments in data engineering technologies and best practices.
  • Familiarity with Azure infrastructure and support is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, planning, analysis, and organizing skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with SQL, Python, and Databricks.
  • Experience in ETL tools like Matallion, DBT, etc.
  • Experience in designing real-time Lakehouse architecture.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for driving innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Advanced quantitative, math, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills and a willingness to overcome obstacles when faced with novel demands.
  • Willingness and ability to take a proactive leadership role on projects.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to interface effectively with executive management.
