Job Description:

Kansas City University College of Dental Medicine seeks an oral pathologist as full-time, clinical faculty for our new dental school in Joplin, Missouri. The faculty member will be responsible for the development of the didactic, pre-clinical and clinical oral pathology/radiology curriculum, integrating evidence-based best practices with clinical patient care as well as guiding current research and scholarly activity in dentistry. The oral pathology/radiology faculty member will collaborate with, and educate the dental Group Practice Leaders, Assistant Group Practice Leaders, simulation faculty, and clinical faculty in the current science of oral pathology/radiology for patient care.
Group Practice Leaders will be responsible for the management of the dental students' clinical practice team comprised of second, third and fourth-year pre-doctoral students. This position will bridge the gap between the simulation laboratory and patient care, and requires the ability to work collaboratively with faculty throughout the College of Dental Medicine for clinical curriculum planning and patient care. The GPLs are ultimately responsible for the management of all patient care delivered within the groups. GPLs play a key role in predoctoral clinical operations and students' achievement of clinical competencies. GPLs may provide didactic and clinical education in the classroom, simulation lab, and/or Oral Health Center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Candidates must demonstrate a passion for dentistry and the application of oral pathology/radiology didactic principles to preclinical and clinical patient care. a strong desire to teach students in a demanding, fast-paced, academic environment
  • Develop goals, objectives and policies for the oral pathology/radiology dental education program within the KCU College of Dental Medicine
  • Implement and deliver the oral pathology/radiology didactic curriculum including pre-clinical materials, simulation and laboratory exercises
  • Integrate evidence-based best practices with clinical patient care and guide current research and scholarly activity in oral pathology/radiology
  • Assure the safe and effective delivery of dental care by the dental students
  • Demonstrate and guide appropriate behavioral management techniques when indicated
  • Deliver clinical patient care as needed
  • Serve as an advisor, coach and/or mentor to dental students expressing a desire for advanced education in oral pathology/radiology
  • Mentor dental student research in the area of oral pathology/radiology when applicable
  • Serve as faculty advisor for community-based activities in the realm of oral pathology/radiology
  • Conduct summative and formative pre-clinical and clinical student assessment in oral pathology/radiology
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervising faculty or Dean

Qualifications:

  • D.D.S./D.M.D. degree
  • Certificate of completion of a CODA accredited Advanced Education Program in oral pathology/radiology
  • Current Missouri dental license or have an active dental license in a US state or Canada and be eligible for licensure in Missouri
  • Must be board-certified or board-eligible related field
