Supports pecan breeding efforts by rating the performance of thousands of breeding lines in permanent orchards for dormancy timing, disease susceptibility, crop load, and nut quality traits.
Collects samples of nuts and plant diseases for imaging, measurements, and evaluation. Follows laboratory protocols as needed.Operates and maintains tractors, mowers, irrigation, and specialized farm equipment to maintain orchard health.
Assists in performing controlled pollinations, planting seedlings, establishing new orchards, removing old orchards, and propagating pecan trees through grafting.
Applies pesticide and herbicide sprays, as advised.As directed, searches for literature pertinent to area of research PD/HM for new procedures or techniques to use in the laboratory, field, or greenhouse.
