Summary


Responsible for inspections and testing as required on equipment in the SMS Valparaiso workshop and at supplier facilities, requiring frequent domestic and occasional international travel.

Assist with managing the Company's quality systems, customer quality expectations, internal/external and regulatory quality compliance.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Perform DIA's (Disassemble, Inspect, Advise) on customer equipment as required at the Valparaiso SMS workshop for customer quoting and repair
  • Inspect finished equipment at both the Valparaiso SMS and supplier workshops to release equipment for shipment
  • Create inspection documents and detailed final inspection reports
  • Ensure document and records controls are maintained
  • Ensure corrective actions are properly generated and effectively closed
  • Participate in supplier registration / surveillance audits as required
  • Assist in reviewing work instructions, routers, drawings and inspection documents
  • Interface with project management, engineers, technical personnel and other staff as needed to complete projects
  • Assist with managing the Company's quality systems, customer quality expectations, internal/external and regulatory quality compliance, promoting a culture of quality through process and procedural improvement
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested
Job Qualifications

  • MUST have prior quality / inspection experience in an industrial/manufacturing/machining environment required
  • Two-year College or university program certificate with 2 years of experience in quality/inspection, or 4 year college or university degree
  • MUST have strong ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings
  • MUST have a basic understanding of fabrication and repair processes
  • Travel – 50% of the time
  • Experience with Faro Arm Technology preferred, but not required
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, reports and legal documents
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
  • Ability to effectively present information to management, customers, suppliers and colleagues
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form

Computer Skills:
Microsoft Office Suite including Spreadsheet and Word Processing Software, Ability to learn ERP system, Adobe Acrobat Professional, PowerPoint
