JOB SUMMARY

This tenure-track faculty member will support the School of Education and Leadership in its journey of developing culturally responsive/sustaining teachers who are able to embody the school's core values:

Reporting to the Chair of HSEL and the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, this individual will play an integral role in the vibrant and collaborative HSEL faculty and staff community at Hamline. The successful candidate will teach courses in elementary education and foundational education, advise both graduate and undergraduate students, contribute to state and national accreditation processes, maintain a research and publication agenda commensurate with a tenure-track position, and contribute to the shared governance of the unit. The position collaborates extensively with faculty and staff throughout the School of Education & Leadership, particularly in the initial license (MAT) program.

The ideal candidate will be:

  • Knowledgeable about and experienced in elementary education;
  • Adept in the use of instructional technology;
  • Successful at creating culturally responsive classrooms and schools, using inclusive practices, and planning, implementing and assessing instruction for diverse learners;
  • Familiar with Minnesota's teacher preparation standards and K-12 learning standards.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach 24 credits a year within the School of Education & Leadership (primarily in elementary education) and across the university as needed (e.g., First Year Seminar);
  • Advise undergraduate and graduate students as needed;
  • Support school partnerships and clinical placements as needed;
  • Collaborate with HSEL faculty on continuous review and improvement of program curriculum;
  • Serve on HSEL, college-wide, and/or university-wide committees as needed;
  • Attend all unit meetings and trainings;
  • Maintain a research and publication agenda commensurate with tenure-track assistant professor expectations;
  • Complete the annual professional reflection and goal-setting process;
  • Support accreditation work through programmatic data collection, use of shared platforms (such as Workday, Canvas, Google Suite, etc.), convening of advisory panels, and review of programmatic data for continuous improvement;
  • Support admissions and recruitment work by attending information sessions and other activities to represent Hamline and its programs to prospective students.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Acquired terminal degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in education, curriculum and instruction, or a closely related field (for which candidate must have at least 18 graduate credit hours in Education) from an accredited institution of higher education (or the foreign equivalent) or an advanced degree in education with at least ten years of experience teaching in culturally and linguistically diverse elementary settings;
  • Experience teaching a wide range of students in culturally and linguistically diverse elementary settings for a minimum of three years (while holding a state license in elementary education);
  • Evidence of a commitment to equity and social justice for all children and youth;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with colleagues in an interdisciplinary environment;
  • Experience teaching online, in person, and in hybrid format;
  • A scholarly record and agenda that demonstrates clear potential to succeed in a tenure-track line.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of teaching experience in K-12 settings;
  • Successful teaching at the university level;
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
    • STEM instruction at the elementary level;
    • Literacy instruction at the elementary level;
    • Social studies instruction at the elementary level;
    • Culturally sustaining, learner-centered instruction.
  • An established record of research and scholarship;
  • Funded research and potential to participate in grant writing and management.
