Job responsibilities and opportunities include:

  • Teaching general music classes for grades 5 - 8, with an emphasis in guitar, and directing two middle school choirs
  • Working with a group of advisees and supporting the social-emotional needs of students
  • Musical Director for the annual middle school musical (rehearsals are primarily during the school day)
  • Optional position as Musical Director for the upper school musical bi-annually (rehearsals are after school, a stipend is available)
  • Developing the music program, including:
    • Working with the middle/upper school theatre director in auditions for musicals
    • Working collaboratively with the team of Visual and Performing Arts teachers and other colleagues
    • Collaborating with the lower school music teacher on two choral performances each year
    • Collaborating with other performing arts faculty in planning and producing the annual Grandparents'/Special Persons' Day performance
    • Writing narrative comments about students at the conclusion of each term
    • Serving on committees and occasional supervision or other duties around the school Sayre's mission focuses on fostering academic excellence, embracing challenge, and cultivating integrity. The Middle School places special emphasis on meeting the needs of the whole child in the areas of cognitive, social, emotional, and aesthetic development. The Upper School's college preparatory program allows for deep academic work combined with extensive offerings in the arts and athletics.
