PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) was developed to answer the many problems around caring for frail seniors. The PACE model is centered on the belief that it is better for the well-being of seniors with chronic care needs and their families to be served in their community whenever possible.

Seniors, their family members, and caregivers face many issues, including transportation to appointments, management of medications, coordination of medical care from different specialists, lack of social interaction, and ability to stay alone at home. POSITION SUMMARY:

A dental assistant is an individual who, without a license, may perform basic supportive dental procedures, as authorized by the Calif Board of Dentistry ( Section , and by regulations adopted by the board, under the supervision of a licensed dentist. "Basic supportive dental procedures" are those procedures that have technically elementary characteristics, are completely reversible, and are unlikely to precipitate potentially hazardous conditions for the patient being treated.

The Unregistered Dental Assistant supports the Dentist to maintain the operation of the dental clinic in the center. The supervising licensed dentist shall be responsible for determining the competency of the dental assistant to perform the basic supportive dental procedures, as authorized by Section

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists with dental clinic set up, preparation and clean up in accordance to the Dental Board of California's "Minimum Standards for Infection Control".
  • Assist dentist during procedures as directed (e.g. perform proper suctioning and instrument passing techniques).
  • Monitor efficacy of autoclave. Do spore testing (biological monitoring) weekly and document results.
  • Clean and sterilize all instruments, room surfaces, and dental equipment.
  • Supports onboarding for others assuming duties for Unregistered Dental Assistant using manuals and formal training materials as a guide as appropriate.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS (knowledge, skills, abilities):

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum one (1) year experience working with frail or elderly.
  • The employer of a dental assistant shall be responsible for ensuring that the dental assistant who has been in continuous employment for 120 days or more, has already successfully completed, or successfully completes, all of the following within a year of the date of employment:

    •(1) A board-approved course in the Dental Practice Act.

    •(2) A board-approved 8 hour course in infection control.

    •(3) A course in basic life support offered by an instructor approved by the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association, or any other course approved by the board as equivalent and that provides the student the opportunity to engage in hands-on simulated clinical scenarios.
  • Must be flexible and have a positive attitude working across multiple settings to meet participant and organizational needs.
  • Fluency in English (verbal and written) required, bilingual ability may be required in specific assignments.
  • First Aid/CPR certification

Your final compensation offer will be determined based on factors such as skills, experience, education, and licenses/certifications. The pay range is expressed as an hourly rate regardless of FLSA status. Exempt positions are paid salaried and are not subject to overtime.
