Job Summary of the Radiology Technologist

Appropriately utilizes x-ray to assist in diagnosis and/or treatment while always adhering to state, regulatory, and Radiation Right guidelines. Performs radiographic procedures and related techniques, producing images for the interpretation by: or at the request of a licensed practitioner. Exercises professional judgement in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics. Provides appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure. This position works closely with other healthcare team members to facilitate exceptional patient care and efficient completion of diagnostic studies while also promoting optimal unit operations. The radiologic technologist adheres to the ICARE customer service standards while maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

Responsibilities of the Radiology Technologist
  • Perform all diagnostic radiographic procedures and demonstrate technique to produce optimal study.
  • Correctly use all equipment in clinical area, including but not limited to: fluoroscopy, c-arm, tomo, and portable units.
  • Interpret physician orders prior to performing exam to ensure optimal study Practice safe radiation protection following hospital guidelines.
  • Assist physicians and radiologists in procedures requiring sterile technique.
  • Prepare and administer radiopaque contrast media needed for radiologic exams.
  • Assess patient's condition prior and during all radiologic procedures.
  • Provide optimum patient care during exams.
  • Corroborate patient's clinical history with procedure, assuring information is documented and available for use by licensed practitioner.
  • Perform other department related duties as needed.
  • Perform minor equipment repairs and upkeep and communicate problems to supervisor or communication log.
Qualifications of the Radiology Technologist

EDUCATION:

  • Associate Degree in Radiologic Technology
  • Graduation of an America Medical Association- approved program in Radiologic Technology

EXPERIENCE:

  • Entry-level graduate Radiologic technologist will be accepted depending shift and technical responsibility of the shift
  • Preferred: Two years in an acute care setting as an X-ray Technologist

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Licensed by Texas Department of State Health Services as a Medical Radiologic Technologist
  • Registered in Radiology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists - ARRT (R)
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
