The Community Living Center (CLC) Registered Nurse provides direct and indirect care to residents and their families. This position potentially requires flexibility in schedule and assignments, as this is a 24/7 hospital. The incumbent makes caring for the resident their priority while in the work setting and demonstrates customer service principles in all aspects of work. The incumbent is accountable to adhering to established policies, standards of care, and standards or practice. The CLC RN reports directly to the Nurse Manager of the unit/ward.
Duties include:
- Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct resident care.
- Integrates data from a wide variety of sources including interviewing, functional assessment, physical assessment, and review of health records to enhance his/her ability to make clinical decisions about appropriate treatments and nursing interventions.
- Provides individualized comprehensive assessment of residents and their care needs that contributes to the interdisciplinary team assessment.
- Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient transition through the continuum of care, resident and family education, residents' self-management after discharge, and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction.
- Considers all characteristics of the individual, including age and life stages, state of health, race and culture, values, and previous experiences.
- Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines.
- Core elements of performance include knowledge and active participation in the unit/program level quality improvement processes and initiatives as well as customer service programs.
- Documents the nursing process utilizing Computer Patient Record System (CPRS) and Bar-Coded Medication Administration (BCMA) software per policy in a manner that is consistent, accurate, concise, and timely.
- Identifies ethical issues in practice and takes appropriate action.
- Delegates care in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
- Assists clients in identifying and securing appropriate services.
- Implements ongoing educational plan to support own professional development.
Paid Time Off: 50 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
