Reports to: Middle School Division Head

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Carries out all instructional responsibilities associated with assigned classes to engage, inspire, and challenge students consistent with Lovett's mission and core values.
  • Cultivates a classroom culture that facilitates student voice, compassion for others, and a whole-child approach.
  • Purposefully design curriculum, instruction, and assessment to reach a diverse community of learners (academically, culturally, racially, religiously, etc.).
  • Collaborate with colleagues within and outside of the department and grade level on curriculum development.
  • Fosters a positive parent-school partnership with Lovett families.
  • Acts as an ambassador of Lovett's faith identity at all times.
  • Participates in department, faculty, team, and grade-level meetings as required.
  • Fulfills additional duties as assigned, including responsibilities that may occur on weekends and evenings (e.g. admission open house, observations, and interviews).
  • Is involved in the life of the school outside of the classroom in partnership.
  • Conducts before and after school tutorials as scheduled.
  • Assists MS Chaplain in planning and executing chapel, including development and management of the Vestry program and Vestry roles during Chapel.
  • Manages MS Bible Study in partnership with US Chaplain, including student enrollment, curriculum, collaboration, and communication within and outside of school. Position Requirements:
    • A bachelor's degree is required, a master's degree is preferred.
    • Three years of teaching and classroom experience in elementary grades, and religious studies is preferred.
    • Ability to develop a comprehensive, spiraling religious studies curriculum.
    • Intimate knowledge of the bible is required, knowledge of other faiths is preferred.
    • A passion for working with young children.
    • The drive, organization, and flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment, contributing to the school community beyond the classroom.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills to facilitate effective communication with students, parents, colleagues, and supervisors.
    • A strong desire to work in a collaborative learning community, employing a growth mindset and participating in ongoing professional development during the school year and summer.
    • Desire and ability to develop an atmosphere of trust and knowledge of students as individuals.
    • Commitment to developing one's cultural self-awareness, cultural competence, and emotional intelligence.
    • Ethical behavior, professionalism, and regular and reliable attendance. Physical Demands:
