Functions as a clinical expert for the Patient Safety and Risk Management Programs. The incumbent is self-directed and demonstrates sound decision-making and judgment and possesses excellent interpersonal skills.

The incumbent provides direct support for the development, maintenance, and operation of the VHA's patient safety and risk management processes at the facility level.

This position will also be the lead for the Risk Management Protected Peer Review Program. This position reports to the Quality and Patient Safety Chief.

Duties:
Responsible for the documented outcomes at the program or service level
Coordinate and implement patient safety policies and activities developed by the National Center for Patient Safety (NCPS)
Collects data, monitors staff compliance with relevant policies, directives and standards, provides reports detailing trends, and provides direct staff support to all services in planning, designing, integrating, implementing, modifying, and administering, a comprehensive quality management program area
Participates in several facility councils, committees, and workgroups
Works in concert with leaders and others to sustain a culture of safety, modeling High Reliability Organization (HRO) practices
Maintains clear communication between the facility and VISN
Communicates relevant patient safety and risk information
Promotes organizational learning and directly supports facility leadership in areas of planning, organization, development, direction, and evaluation of the patient safety and risk programs within the facility
Must have attitude that building the culture of safety is paramount, and the foundation upon which safe operations are based
Assists in developing processes to assure that all required information is procured and acted upon to meet the expectations of the patients, facility, The Joint Commission, VA Central Office, Office of Inspector General, VISN, or other internal and external organizations
This position will also be the lead for the healthcare system's Risk Management Protected Peer Review Program.
