Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to join our team and lead our efforts in building innovative open source software in the container management space. As a key member of the Rancher Container Platform team, you will be responsible for managing managers and their teams, exploring new ideas, and working on new and developing projects. Your primary focus will be to deliver solutions that enhance the user experience of cloud-native platforms such as Kubernetes and simplify the process of running containerized workloads.

Responsibilities:

Provide direct and ongoing leadership for an organization of multiple managers and their teams, designing and developing new products, enhancements, and updates, and managing software projects.Manage headcount, deliverables, schedules, and costs for multiple ongoing projects and programs, ensuring that resources are appropriately allocated and that goals, objectives, timelines, and budgets are met in accordance with program and organizational roadmaps.Proactively identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency across teams.Oversee people-care management for indirect reports, including hiring, setting and monitoring of annual performance plans, coaching, and career development; drive and foster organization-wide performance standards, expectations, and practices to support ongoing team member and process development. Education and Experience Required: Bachelor or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experienceTypically 8 or more years of related work experience, including 5 or more years of people management experience, with at least 2 years managing managers. Recommended Knowledge and Skills: Experience with development in cloud or container technologiesHands-on technical knowledge, ability to work closely with the team and provide guidanceAdvanced leadership skills, including coaching, teambuilding, conflict resolution, and management in an agile environmentAdvanced project management skills including time and risk management, resource prioritization, and project structuringExcellent analytical and problem solving skillsExperience in managing team members across geographies to drive workforce development and achieve desired resultsAdvanced communication skills catered to a wide variety of audiences.
