Position Overview

Kiewit Power Engineers has an immediate opening for a Underground Transmission Engineer to join our growing Underground Transmission team in the Power Delivery department in our Lenexa, KS office. As part of this team of highly specialized design professionals, you will support a variety of underground/submarine transmission and distribution projects ranging from 12kV to 500kV in both engineering detailed design and Engineer, Procure, Construct (EPC) projects for clients throughout the North America.

You will be part of a growing team that supports all aspects of the project execution process by performing innovative design engineering through brainstorming conceptual designs, performing and/or reviewing calculations, developing plans, scheduling tasks to meet client needs, as well as mitigating risk to ensure smooth and safe construction operations.

This position is based out of our Lenexa, KS.

Responsibilities

• Prioritize work and manage multiple projects under budget and time constraints.

• Develop a personal initiative and ability to interact with personnel, contractors, regulatory representatives, and town / city officials in a positive, collaborative and team-building manner.

• Perform the preparation of design deliverables for underground transmission lines including plan and profiles, ampacity calculations, pulling calculations, material selection, duct bank design, riser structure design, and construction specifications in compliance with safety, environment and client standards and policies.

• Review and approve drawings and material lists developed by designers.

• Develop project estimates and schedules, evaluate design options and criteria for technical merit, and conduct field visits to verify routing conditions and parameters.

• Review drawings for manufacturers and use pertinent information in the production of design drawings.

• Learn the industry standards such as IEC, ICEA, AEIC, NEC, NESC, IEEE and OSHA.

Qualifications
  • Accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 3+ years of relevant engineering experience
  • EIT licensure or eligibility within the United States
  • Experience with engineering design software will be an advantage, but not required: this includes CYMCAP, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, MathCAD, EATP
  • Experience with working in a team setting
  • Proactive communication skills, both oral and written, with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Worked with several aspects of project execution; client interaction; proposal and cost estimate preparations; subcontract management; feasibility studies; conceptual and detailed design; construction support; manufacturing inspection and factory acceptance test witness; project close-out.
