Position Information

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Animal Sciences Department at North Dakota State University is seeking to fill a 12-month, non-tenure track Lecturer position.

The department is seeking a quality individual to join the 22 faculty members whose specialties encompass physiology, reproduction, nutrition, genetics, meat science, livestock management, human animal interactions, and utilization of livestock products.

The Department of Animal Sciences has three majors:
Animal Science, Equine Science, and Veterinary Technology.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will:

• Develop and manage high-impact learning opportunities for Animal Sciences undergraduate and graduate students as well as faculty and staff.
• Teaching and learning activities may include introductory animal science labs, 200-level livestock production courses, 200-level discipline-oriented courses (i.e. animal nutrition), and other animal sciences courses based on departmental needs.
• Demonstrate skills in pedagogical methodologies that enhance student learning.
• Coordinate and supervise undergraduate internship placement, advisement, and evaluation.
• Serve as academic advisor for animal science undergraduates.
• Serve the department, college, and university in such capacity as (for example) student club advisor, planning and execution of recruitment and retention of undergraduate students' activities, and as a representative of responsible animal agriculture.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Completed M.S. degree at or within 6 months of hire start date in animal sciences, agriculture education, or related area.
• Experience teaching livestock production or animal science related coursework.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Knowledge of and/ or experience with the modern Land Grant University.

• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a diverse team atmosphere.
• Valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Demonstrated ability to bring energy and innovation to traditional and nontraditional instruction.
• Ability to promote animal science recruitment operations through creative and innovative means targeting youth audiences.
• Advanced pedagogical training (i.e. completion of a teaching certificate at an accredited university; led or attended pedagogical/teaching development workshop).

DESCRIPTION OF THE DEPARTMENT:

The Department of Animal Sciences at North Dakota State University is composed of 22 full-time faculty and 30 support personnel.

The department offers undergraduate majors in animal science, veterinary technology, and equine studies, and graduate opportunities in numerous disciplines related to animal science.

Current enrollment is approximately 320 undergraduate and 20 graduate students. Our faculty are nationally and internationally recognized for excellence in extension, research, and teaching.

Highly productive and dedicated faculty members have developed robust research programs in diverse areas ranging from animal production systems to molecular biology.

Core research areas include ruminant nutrition, reproductive biology, and meat science. State-of-the-art facilities include well-equipped laboratories with ample space for teaching and research purposes.

Our faculty members interact with county extension agents, off-campus extension staff, scientists at research extension centers, other departments, universities, state and federal agencies, and also collaborate nationally and internationally.
