St. Martin's Episcopal School seeks a culturally competent and responsive candidate to
serve as a Kairos Learning Teacher for the school year. The Kairos Learning
Center (KLC) uses the Orton-Gillingham approach to support students whose learning
profile indicates the need for additional strategies in the areas of executive functioning
and language-specific learning differences. The Kairos Learning Teacher reports to the
Director of Kairos Learning Center.


The Kairos Learning Teacher is responsible for creating a classroom environment
favorable to learning and personal growth of every student; establishing effective rapport
with students; motivating students to develop skills attitudes and knowledge needed to
provide a good foundation for becoming a responsible citizen in accordance with each
student's ability; and establishing good relationships with parents and with other staff
members. The Kairos Learning Teacher is also responsible for the following essential
tasks:


Essential Functions

? Teaches 4 to 5 classes; small group language arts and math instruction


? Liaison with the grade level teaching team, working closely with classroom teachers to
identify and employ strategies for each KLC student.


? Coordinate with classroom teachers about daily and long term assignments. Provide
student support in breaking down long term projects into manageable tasks and
monitor student progress.


? Regularly monitor student academic performance and communicate with the student,
parents, and faculty to identify areas in need of improvement.


? Daily class time with small groups (6 or fewer) of students to explicitly teach executive
functioning and language-specific skills as appropriate and apply those skills to current
classwork. These areas include grammar instruction and remediation as needed for
support.


? Pre and post reading activities in support of classroom literature instruction, reading
comprehension support, and writing instruction including pre-writing, editing, revision,
and proofreading.


? Liaison with off-campus practitioners who may be involved in supporting particular
students.

? Encourage students to take advantage of and help students coordinate extra help
sessions with classroom teachers. Support increasing student self-advocacy, problem
solving skills, and executive function skills.


? Communicate with all stakeholders about student progress and challenges. Create
individualized goals for student improvement and monitor student progress.


? Be a responsive advocate for student and parent concerns and needs for academic
success.


? Coordinate with the Director of Kairos, other Kairos faculty members, school counselor
and Division principal.


? Demonstrates proficiency with technology and a willingness to integrate modern
technology, media and other tools into classroom instruction.


? Seeks regular field experience opportunities for students that extend the classroom
into the broader community.


? Evaluates and documents academic and social growth of students, and keeps required
records.


? Communicates regularly and thoroughly with parents by conducting parent
conferences, updating the class web page, planning and attending special events,
holding meetings, and through emails and telephone calls.


? Attends all grade level, departmental and required School meetings as well as
organizes and attends Parent Night.


? Attends before-school and after-school Parent Conferences as needed.


Qualifications and Experience


Preferred candidates will have at least 3-5 years of classroom experience as well as prior
experience teaching students with dyslexia using the O-G Approach in either a school
setting or in one-on-one tutoring. The preferred candidate will be certified in the O-G
Approach and have experience with Lower School - aged students.

? Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
? Orton-Gillingham training / certification required.
? Desire to plan and work collaboratively on a team is essential.
? Teaching experience within independent schools preferred.
? A passion for working with students with learning differences.
? A strong sense of organization to enhance each student's executive function
skill set.

Physical Requirements


This job is performed inside; the noise level can be soft to loud. While performing the
duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, stoop, kneel, walk, talk,
read, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to type, handle or
feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must
occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. In compliance with ADA

Schedule
The position is a 10-month Faculty position, paid over 12-months and will follow the
typical school calendar. The position will adhere to a regular schedule of Monday - Friday,
7:30am - 4:00pm.
