This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program.
You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.
Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
DutiesThis is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until September 30, 2024. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be December 22, 2023 with subsequent cut-off dates every 2 weeks. Eligible applications received after that date will be accepted on an ongoing basis and qualified candidates will be considered as vacancies become available.

The Orthopedic Surgeon is a specialty professional in the care of musculoskeletal conditions which need diagnosis and/or treatment to achieve palliation or cure for orthopedic problems.
Will participate in quality improvement activates, including but not limited to performance measure meetings, staff meetings, Morbidity and Mortality conference and peer review.
The Orthopedic Surgeon will screen outpatients and inpatients to determine need for further care. Performs initial histories and physical examinations on inpatients and outpatients, as well as major and minor surgical procedures.The Orthopedic surgeon will prescribe medications, order diagnostic studies such as lab tests, imaging, electrocardiograms (EKGs) and enters specialty consults as needed.
Each member of the Surgery Department functions as a cooperative and collegial team member with the entire medical center staff.
The Orthopedic surgeon will directly supervise staff in clinical situations. Mid-level providers, RNs, LVNs on occasion and other trainees. No supervisory responsibilities such as disciplinary actions, written performance evaluations or time and leave approval are expected for this positionMeets the needs of customers while supporting the medical center and service missions.
Consistently communicates and treats customers (patients, visitors, volunteers, and all medical center staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.
Provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures. Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately.The focus of this position is on the provision of surgery services to Veterans enrolled at the VA Central California Health Care System.
Our Veterans are typically between 18 and 70 years of age.This position requires the incumbent to possess or develop an understanding of the particular needs of these types of patients.
Sensitivity to the special needs of all patients in respect to age, developmental requirements, and culturally related factors must be consistently achieved.
