MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:


Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in medical technology, biology or related field and/or completion of an accredited cytology/cytotechnology program. Coordinates activities participates in evaluation and implements procedures for new test methodology, specimen handling and instrumentation.   1. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of all aspects related to the laboratory discipline.
  2. Coordinates the evaluation, selection, and implementation of new laboratory tests with lab leadership, stakeholders, purchasing and vendors.
  3. Creates and coordinates pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic processes in consultation with the medical director and department leaders.
  4. Maintains complete and current policies, procedure manuals, and forms used in collection, submission, processing and testing within the laboratory discipline.
  5. Develops and coordinates competency testing for laboratory personnel.
  6. Reviews, monitors and updates testing menus and test catalogs in collaboration with appropriate leaders, medical directors, and technical staff.
  7. Consults with the Laboratory Information System (LIS) Team on the build, validation, and maintenance of electronic workflows across all phases of testing (pre-analytic, analytic and post-analytic).
  8. Collaborates with section supervisor to investigate gaps and failures and recommends process improvements and/or corrective actions to assure compliance with all processing, handling, testing requirements.
  9. Assists, implements, and evaluates research/development projects in coordination with the medical director and department leadership.
  10. Troubleshoots, maintains, and coordinates the repair of instruments within the laboratory discipline.
  11. Supports section to ensure proper inventory of necessary supplies required for testing
  12. Assists laboratory leadership with cost accounting, cost per test and general oversight of department cost centers identifying areas for savings or improvement.
  13. Assists with budgetary requirements and/or CPT coding to ensure maximum reimbursement and proper billing
  14. Provides feedback for the evaluation of supplier contract and contract agreement reviews in collaboration with Medical Directors, laboratory leadership and purchasing.
  15. Serves as a technical resource for cytology across the HealthPartners system and provides instruction and support for diagnostic criteria and interpretation.

  3. Performs computer based statistical analysis of department measures for the purposes of accreditation, performance evaluation and process improvement.
  4. Evaluates and coordinates the administration of proficiency testing programs. Presents results to medical directors, leaders, and staff. Investigates failures, coordinates the implementation of corrective actions and documents corrective actions for submission to the appropriate agencies.
  5. Analyzes the acceptability of laboratory specimen collection, submission, and orders, developing and coordinating follow-up actions as needed.
  6. Implements and monitors quality control systems: Develops protocols and tools, selects quality control products, instructs, and directs staff in utilization and interpretation, collates and analyzes data, documents, and coordinates improvement when necessary.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Physical demands include prolonged sitting with neck bent over a microscope, visual and mental stress (concentration during microscopy) and standing during collection of fine needle aspirations in various clinics and departments. Prolonged standing while operating and troubleshooting analyzers and performing a variety of tests. May spend prolonged time working with a computer and looking at a computer screen entering test results or validating reports in the LIS system. May lift twenty pounds while lifting supplies. Uses hands or fingers in activities requiring fine coordination.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Work is performed in a medical laboratory (BSL Levels I and II).
