ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Director of Safety and Security is responsible for overseeing and leading the Safety and Security of Downtown Summerlin. This includes daily/non-event activities and event-related activities. The Director coordinates and manages third-party contractors, all necessary staff, and services to provide industry-leading standards in office, retail, and event security, for Downtown Summerlin and other properties as assigned. The Director reports to the Vice President, Public Safety and Guest Experience and will work closely with risk management's Safety and Loss Prevention in Houston as well as the Vice President, Management and Operations and Assistant General Manager of Downtown Summerlin.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

General Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the Public Safety Operations for Downtown Summerlin and other properties as assigned.
  • Be present at all holidays, major events, and other activations, as required.
  • Evaluate and provide recommendations to close security gaps and vulnerabilities with a heavy emphasis on incident avoidance versus reaction.
  • Create metrics to measure the effectiveness of the security program and implement a system to track and report physical security issues while keeping the physical security strategy aligned with the business needs of the Howard Hughes organization.
  • Conduct appropriate investigations related to physical security where and when required and oversee incident response and protocols as necessary.
  • The Director (in Partnership with the VP of Public Safety and Guest Experience) will be responsible for the design, establishment, and maintenance of security standards, policies, and procedures, working in concert with senior leaders.
  • In addition to coordination with Downtown Summerlin, the Director must work effectively with federal, state, and local public safety entities such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Secret Service, Homeland Security, and local police/fire departments to ensure the safety of Howard Hughes Properties' tenants, guests, staff, and infrastructure.
  • Indirectly responsible for performance of 3rd party security vendors.
  • Manage overwatch of security department budget, staffing schedules, capital projects, emergency notification, video surveillance, access, and incident reporting systems.

Parking/Traffic Control/Crowd Management Responsibilities:

  • Ensure traffic control contractors perform services as agreed upon per contract and budget.
  • Attend traffic meetings with 3rd party vendors, property management, event management, police, and if necessary, county officials to ensure all event needs are met and other aspects of the operation are running optimally.
  • Ensure compliance with county ordinance requirements and permits pertaining to development of required traffic management plans for all events, as required by ordinance or other requirements.
  • Oversee and approve crowd control and traffic management plans for all events at Downtown Summerlin and other projects as required.
  • Provide additional oversight of budgets related to traffic operations and relative to event day operations.

Cross-Regional Support:

  • Support Corporate Risk Management by serving as a member of the Safety and Security working group and being a liaison between the Summerlin Operating Properties and the Risk Management team.
  • Utilize the various threat monitoring tools provided by Howard Hughes in partnership with the Corporate Director of Safety and Security to provide advanced warning for a wide range of threats including protests, criminal activity, and severe weather.

ABOUT YOU:

  • Minimum 10 years property management experience in entertainment districts, retail, or office, and/or retail management experience.
  • Experience with developing and managing security protocols and training.
  • Flexible schedule to be available as business requires including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Adept in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Strong relationship building with tenants and community.
  • Able to work with and communicate effectively with tenants and contracted services personnel.
  • Work with little supervision.
  • Manage a dynamic work environment with competing priorities.
  • A collaborator who can multi-task and is self-directed.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
