The Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist (BESS) plays a crucial role in the Biomedical Engineering Department, offering both clinical and administrative assistance to staff, patients, and administrators for all matters related to the management of medical equipment throughout the facility.
Duties
The Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist (BESS) is responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
- Coordinating efficiently with other facility support departments
- Distributing and prioritizing workload among employees
- Ensuring adherence to SOPs and standards
- Performing advanced testing and troubleshooting of medical devices and systems
- Following Medical Device Isolation Architecture (MDIA) Guidelines
- Installing operating systems and clinical application software
- Adhering to VA guidelines for network incident response
- Maintaining knowledge of relevant safety codes and standards
- Documenting all work in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
- Investigating and documenting recalls and safety alerts
- Participating in safety improvement processes
- Staying updated on medical technology advancements
- Providing training and education to end users and clinical staff
- Offering mentoring and technical training to peers
- Performing additional assigned duties related to maintenance and tracking of medical systems
