Specific teaching assignments could include teaching AP English Literature, World Literature, Honors American Literature, Forensics, Theater Arts, and College Composition.
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
- Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
- Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
- Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments in order to evaluate students' progress.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with students and instructional colleagues.
- Communicate effectively with families.
- Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Members of the Upper School faculty supervise student clubs and moderate Student Experiential Programs including weekly Community Service and Project Term. The ideal candidate will have a degree in English or a related field and will have experience teaching English and AP Literature at the high school level. Interested individuals should desire to work closely with adolescents and be part of a school community that supports and challenges students to be their best selves academically. Instructors tailor instruction to individuals' needs, evaluate student progress and provide feedback in a timely manner, promote individual growth and independent thought, and create a positive learning environment. A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of Sacred Heart Schools is essential. Basic requirements include but are not limited to:
- Bachelor's or higher in English, with a current teaching certificate
- A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience
- Certified or experienced in Advanced Placement instruction
- A desire to seek out professional development activities related to the latest instructional strategies and student achievement
- Ability to work well with students and colleagues; willingness to be an active, enthusiastic member of the Sacred Heart community
- Willingness to adapt to an existing curriculum as well as contribute ideas to enhance the respective academic programs
