Sterling Heights, Michigan, United States BAE Systems Full time
Job Description
What's it like realizing your potential at an innovative company that takes on some of the world's most important challenges? Rewarding. As part of our engineering team, you'll join a diverse group of driven professionals who design the products and systems that support enhanced military capabilities.

At BAE Systems, we value our workforce. We offer competitive salary and benefit packages, and we work a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off. This position is currently working 2-3 days / week on-site and up to 2 days / week remotely.

We are hiring a Senior Structural Engineer to lead other engineers to deliver program results and be able to work virtually to support production, STS, and new vehicle line needs as assigned.
In this role, you will be assigned to a combat vehicle program, and be asked to contribute to the technical design support. You will provide leadership and drive overall performance for cost and schedule of the assigned program.

As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will
  • Work with a wide array of team members, including program management, manufacturing/Floor support engineers, weld engineering, materials, technical fellows, survivability, quality, ESIP and other IPTs, SMEs and specialty engineering groups.
  • Interact with DCMA or USG to gain variance approvals or address production investigations.
  • Understand the customer's expectations for the IPT, provide updates to their customers and identify risks to management and their IPT lead.
  • Escalate issues which may prohibit meeting commitments to appropriate leaders/customers and identify and quantify associated risks and develop mitigation plans.
  • Demonstrate leadership capabilities and a capacity for further growth.
  • Provide inputs for staffing requirements as well as provide status to their IPT lead.
  • Provide feedback to functional managers on performance and interactions with other team members, ensuring their teammates are recognized for accomplishments and feel valued for their contributions.
Across all areas of responsibility, you may operate as a people-leader, conducting their business in an honorable, ethical, inclusive, and effective fashion. In this case, you will help develop technical and leadership capabilities within their team; professionally mentor and coach team members when they fail to meet expectations, and enforce truthful communications with the customer.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • BS degree in Engineering/Science with 4 or more years of related experience
  • MS degree in Engineering/Science with 2 or more years of related experience
