Job Summary and Qualifications

This position obtains appropriate blood samples following laboratory procedures and guidelines by proper and various methods from patient orders on a daily basis. They collect, transport and process these specimens in a timely manner. They follow established guidelines for processing of the specimens to include accessioning, centrifugation, and delivery of specimens to technical areas. They follow all safety and infection control guidelines established by the hospital and the Laboratory and assist Team Members and/or Supervisors in whatever project or task assigned to facilitate efficient and accurate specimen processing.

What you will do in this role:

  • Determine tube type, volume, and techniques necessary for requested test, obtain specimen through the most efficient route, transport specimens to Laboratory, and assist nursing services in blood collection as needed and/or requested.
  • Process specimens to include accessioning, centrifugation, labeling, and distribution; verifying again patient identification prior to labeling and/or delivery to technical areas.
  • Communicate effectively with peers, nurses, Laboratory Team Members, supervisors, etc.
What qualifications you will need:
  • 3+ months of Phlebotomy experience required. Prior acute care experience preferred.
  • Phlebotomy certification from an approved professional credentialing organization, i.e. ASCP, AMT, NHA, etc., preferred.
  • Professional certification or licensure from other approved education/training programs may be determined as equivalent on an individual basis, i.e. Medical Assistant, EMT, Nursing, etc.
