Overview: this is a provisional appointment.

Brief job description (essential functions of the job): under direction from the Commissioner or his/her designee, serves as an Outreach Coordinator and administrative aide to a division or department head.

Responsibilities:

Performs a wide variety of important public outreach, administrative tasks and procedures.
Represents the department as the liaison to diverse neighborhood and community groups, civic associations and non-profit agencies.
Coordinates, hosts and organizes Parks Department neighborhood meetings, park opening events and park groundbreaking events; acting as liaison with diverse community groups, managing outreach efforts to churches, civic associations, elected officials, funding agencies, and non-profits.
Responsible for management and expansion of the Park Partners program through stewardship, web-based presence, training and education.
Generates new and innovative fundraising opportunities and expansion of existing programs.
Performs outreach and constituency building; building and increasing awareness and public participation in departmental campaigns and goals.
Performs other duties as assigned and related work as required.

Minimum entrance qualifications:
At least five years of experience in a public administration capacity is required, of which at least two two years should involve community outreach experience.
Work experience with non-profit organizations is helpful but not required.
A thorough understanding of all aspects of Microsoft Office Suite products is required.
Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills required.
Ability to coordinate the work efforts of a diverse staff and to communicate well with the public by phone, in-person and electronically.
Must be a highly motivated self-starter who can balance multiple projects and deadlines and who enjoys working with members of the public.
Ability to exercise good judgement and focus on detail as required by the job.
The following is preferred: ability to plan and organize the work of a diverse staff; demonstrated record of cultural competence with diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic groups; fluency in Spanish, Haitian Creole or other secondary language.

Substitutions: an associate degree preferred and may be substituted for one year of the required experience. An undergraduate degree in public administration or closely related field may be substituted for two years of the required experience.
Must have and maintain an active Massachusetts drivers license.

Boston residency required.
