Summary This Direct-Hire position is in the Food and Drug Administration and is located in the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, Molecular Methods and Subtyping Branch, Office of Regulatory Sciences which develops new methodology or refining existing methods for the rapid detection and discrimination of foodborne pathogens.

Responsibilities Conducts research using genomics, and molecular approaches to characterize pathways.

Independently conducts difficult, highly specialized research in detection and identification of bacterial toxins particularly enterotoxins produced by Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus cereus.

Analyzes a combination of molecular and biological data sets of different sizes and resolutions through scientifically accepted algorithm. Implements new, state of the art, highly sensitive targeted RNA sequencing analysis for enterotoxins in foods and dietary supplements. Determines areas for investigation of targeted RNA sequencing methods thus ensuring their reliability, efficiency, and automation. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications The position of Research Biologist (Bioinformatics) falls under the 0401 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-14, you must meet all requirements by 11:59 pm EST on 06/25/2024. Basic Requirements A.

Degree:
biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR B.

Combination of education and experience:
