Position Specific Description

  • In the Licensing and Permitting Section of NEER's Environmental Services Department supporting project development for NextEra Energy Resources and other NextEra Energy affiliates
  • Based in NEER's Houston, TX office or a regionally appropriate location
  • Demonstrates relevant experience and ability to lead, with limited direction, a team of environmental professionals supporting the environmental permitting of projects in all or portions of TX, OK, CO, KS, MO, NE, and SD
  • Responsible for environmental due diligence, siting, and acquiring federal, state, and local environmental approvals/permits for energy development projects including, but not limited to, wind, solar, battery storage, gas, hydrogen, and transmission
  • Environmental support on potential mergers and acquisitions, financings, and divestitures of assets
  • Possesses strong leadership and communication skills and be schedule and process driven
  • Capable of interpreting pertinent federal, state, and local environmental policies and regulations, effectively interface with internal and external customers, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders, and assist in resolving complex environmental matters
  • Helps ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, as well as company policies.
  • Primary responsibilities include managing a team of Environmental Specialist/Project Managers and working closely development teams to help search out and evaluate potential project sites as well as complete federal, state, and local environmental licensing and permitting throughout the southeastern US
  • Maintains current knowledge of pertinent national and state-level environmental policies and regulations, can effectively interface with internal and external customers, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders, and be able to assist in resolving complex environmental matters
  • Maintains good working relationships with local agency staff as well as Non-Governmental Organizations working in the vicinity
  • Requires some travel

This job is responsible for managing multiple multifaceted environmental issues, licensing and permitting processes, legislative development, staff resources and related activities to provide management support to NextEra Energy, Inc. departments.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Obtains all required federal, state and local environmental licenses, permits and approvals for development projects

• Supports multiple projects with multifaceted environmental and regulatory issues and assists in comprehensive environmental due diligence reviews for potential acquisitions

• Maintains current knowledge of pertinent national and state level environmental policies and regulations

• Interfaces with internal and external customers, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders, and be able to assist in resolving complex environmental matters

• Helps ensure compliance with federal, state and local environmental regulations, as well as company policies

• Translates regulations and permit into actionable construction compliance tasks

• Provides specialized environmental expertise and environmental technical support
