The Department of Educational Studies in the College of Education and Human Ecology at The Ohio State University invites applications for a full-time (9-month) assistant professor rank tenure-track position in Counselor Education with a specialty focus of clinical mental health counseling and addictions. The position will begin in August 2024. The Department of Educational Studies has a commitment to excellence in scholarship, teaching, and service that advances the educational environment across a diversity of contexts and peoples. The Department values collaborative scholarship among colleagues in and across the College, University, and other relevant stakeholders. The Ohio State University has world-class array of resources and opportunities for new faculty, including the Crane Center for Early Childhood Research and Policy, Schoenbaum Family Center, Nationwide Children's Hospital, Nisonger Center, and the Michael Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning.

Qualifications: The position requires the candidate to demonstrate evidence of strong potential to gain a national and/or international scholarly reputation as evidenced in part by development of a strong publication record focused on clinical mental health counseling and addictions. Experience teaching addiction courses, board certification in chemical dependency, evidence of effort toward obtaining internal and external funded research, knowledge of critical approaches towards building protective factors in clients, and a focus on wellness will also be viewed as strengths. We also seek a candidate who has demonstrated ability to teach and work with persons from historically underserved backgrounds.

The candidate must meet the following required qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate from a CACREP-accredited program in Counselor Education.
  • Licensed in the state of Ohio as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (Supervisor) - LPCC-S
  • Licensed in the state of Ohio as a Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor - LICDC
  • Potential to teach, advise, and mentor M.A. and Ph.D. students

Preferred qualifications for the successful candidate include:

  • Evidence of publications focused on clinical mental health counseling, addictions counseling, cultural competencies in counseling, and building protective factors in clients.
  • Evidence of scholarship (e.g. publications or presentations) focused on wellness practice, substance abuse treatment, trauma-informed care, and enhancing cultural competence of counselors.
  • Experience teaching doctoral students and masters students in clinical mental health and addictions topics, such as addictions counseling, clinical diagnosis, pedagogical and leadership issues, and field experiences.
  • Experience advising doctoral students and masters students
  • Experience in leadership to the field (e.g. journal reviewer; association leadership), to their university (e.g. committee membership), and service to their program (e.g. coordinating field experiences)
  • Experience as a clinician in clinical mental health counseling and addiction rehabilitation settings
  • Experience as a clinical supervisor in the field and in university settings

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be a scholar who has the potential to develop a national and/or international reputation in the fields of counselor education and addictions. Responsibilities include conducting and publishing research in top-tier journals; securing internal/external funding to support their research; teaching graduate courses; mentoring MA and Ph.D. students; engaging in curriculum development; providing support for program growth; and providing service to the department, college, university, and academic and practice communities.
