Posting Context Statement
Established in 1950, the Kimberly Research & Extension Center encompasses 180 acres of irrigated land, four greenhouses, laboratories, a seed processing and storage facility, and a potato storage research complex.
KREC provides research and extension programs that support agriculture for the eight counties of the Magic Valley. Research teams investigate disease management techniques, potato storage practices, plant-insect interactions and biological control, and weed management practices.

Position Overview
This position will operate tractors and other field equipment, plant, fertilize, cultivate, spray, and harvest in support of research and non-research related crops. Perform routine maintenance on machinery and equipment. Perform backup facilities maintenance at the Kimberly R&E Center. Contribute to team effort by creating a work environment that emphasizes teamwork and safety.

Required Experience
  • Experience in the operation of farm tractors, implements, and equipment
  • Experience maintaining and repairing farm equipment and vehicles
  • Experience with farm irrigation


Required Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent


Required Other
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university-owned vehicles
  • Must possess a Private Applicators License and Chemigation, or able to obtain both within six months of hire
  • Ability to work nonstandard hours including weekends when needed


Additional Preferred
  • Associate degree or higher in agricultural related field.
  • Farming background.
  • Experience with farm chemicals and their use.
  • Experience with a variety of crops.
  • Computer record-keeping skills.
  • Knowledge of good safety practices.


Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • Ability to carry, lift and/or otherwise move items weighing up to 80 pounds.
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
