Job Description
Gilead Sciences, Inc. is a research-based biopharmaceutical company that discovers, develops and commercializes innovative medicines in areas of unmet medical need. Gilead's portfolio of products and pipeline of investigational drugs includes treatments for HIV/AIDS, COVID, HBV, HCV, HDV, Oncology and Cell Therapy as well as Inflammatory Diseases. This position reports to the Executive Director, Patient-Focused Implementation Science (PFIS). PFIS is a visionary team within Global Medical Strategy and Operations in Medical Affairs comprised of dedicated and passionate experts with complementary and multidisciplinary backgrounds in health services research, epidemiology, clinical research and implementation and behavioral sciences. We employ evidence-based approaches to address the challenges patients face in navigating their care to close the research-to-practice gap. This involves a systematic, patient-focused approach applying mixed methods, multilevel interventions, and collaborative solutions to address practical challenges in clinical care that impact the adoption of new innovations.
This individual will collaborate with external multi-stakeholder ecosystem partners including health systems, clinicians, payers, community-based organizations, patient advocacy organizations, professional societies, among others to better understand patient needs, challenges, and opportunities to improve patient care; to inform future capabilities important to patients and the Gilead pipeline; and to build strong internal and external networks. This individual will work effectively in a complex matrixed internal environment to help guide strategy to shape and ensure patient needs/insights are considered and integrated into strategy and evidence generation activities to support product development and future launch plans. This individual will have the ability to work across all therapeutic areas, globally and by region, to ensure the successful completion of deliverables and provide strategic, technical, and operational leadership to identify and incorporate innovation across industry benchmarks.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Identify, lead, collaborate and co-create implementation science initiatives for medical affairs and the enterprise to heighten patient access and optimal patient careSupport and continue to evolve Patient-Focused Implementation Science strategy; create authentic platforms and opportunities to understand what matters most to patients to incorporate into strategic planningDeliver relevant and actionable insights to inform organizational decisions that address comprehensive care needsDevelop proposals, protocols, execute collaborative initiatives, deploy evidenced-based patient-facing solutions at scale, disseminate findings via abstracts, manuscripts and presentations, following SOPs, oversee legal agreements and budgets ensuring compliance and proper documentationLead components of cross-functional patient-focused operating model with key functional areas (Scientific Communications, Medical Excellence, Insights, Digital and Analytics, Global Medical Therapeutic Areas, Clinical Development & Operations, Legal, Corporate Strategy, Commercial Strategy, Community Engagement & Advocacy, Advancing Health & Black Equity, Government Affairs) and collaborate with other evidence generating functions (Real World Evidence, Health Economics Outcomes Research, Medical Affairs) to facilitate Gilead patient centricity, strategy and tactics with focus on care coordination, navigation and patient-centered decision makingRepresent PFIS in pre-competitive patient engagement organization initiatives to shape external perspectives and bring expertise and insights into the organizationEnhance organizational understanding of patient behaviors in the real-world setting to affect patient outcomesProvide a perspective of in practice person-centered needs to inform Development decisionsIdentify opportunities and tailor solutions for internal and external projects within a therapeutic area or above brands to optimize patient outcomesParticipate as a recognized leader, expert and spokesperson internally and externally on matters of critical importance for Patient-Focused Implementation Science, presenting at congresses, round tables, advisory boards and educational events
Knowledge, Experience and Skills:
Advanced scientific degree (e.g., PhD, ScD, PharmD, MS) with implementation science experience with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experiencePreference for a minimum of six (6) years of that experience to be in the biopharmaceutical industryScientific or clinical experience in one or more of the following: HIV treatment and prevention, oncology (breast, lung, GI, gynecologic, etc.), or inflammatory diseases Experience in implementation science methods, program evaluation, quality improvement, person centered care and outcomes measurement, including experience leveraging digital health solutions and novel use of PROs, PREMs and data generated on the patient experienceExperience in leading collaborative initiatives and multi-site research partnerships, including proposal development, protocol writing and study execution and familiar with research design, data analysis and statisticsStrong analytic, critical thinking, writing and problem-solving skills Creative, well-spoken and articulate; ability to effectively communicate with multi-stakeholder collaborators and to deliver impactful presentationsStrong team player, committed to prioritizing the collective goals of the team over personal ambitions Knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry including field medical operations best practices and implementation science landscape. The salary range for this position is: $274, $355, Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
