Duties

Incumbent serves as a social worker in the Substance Use Disorder Clinic and the Substance Abuse Residential Rehabilitative Treatment Programs at the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center. In the role, the social worker provides assessment, treatment, case management, and planning to patients with substance use disorders as part of a multidisciplinary team. The social worker serves as an expert on recovery planning, psychosocial assessment and interventions, evidence-based therapies, and discharge planning. The incumbent services as a specialist in substance abuse within the facility and provides direct patient care services in the program area of addictions recovery. Professional social work interventions are provided in both the intensive outpatient care setting and within the residential treatment program. Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Performing specialized treatment of mental health disorders and substance abuse/addictions.
- Providing individual , group, and family psychotherapy and case management interventions used in the treatment of Veterans with complex medical and mental health conditions.
- Coordinating community-based services, including information and referral for additional services from other VA programs, other government programs, and community programs.
- Developing treatment plans in collaboration with the Veteran/family and with the interdisciplinary treatment team.
- Establishing and maintaining therapeutic relationships with Veterans and their families.
- Working with patients and families who are experiencing psychiatric, medical, and social problems by using individual, group, and family counseling and therapy sklls.
Compressed/Flexible:Available. Extended tour (working until 7:30pm) and working on Fridays is required.

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of existing pay, higher or unique qualifications, or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
