Summary

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) is a member of the nursing team who works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and performs assignments requiring licensure as a vocational/practical nurse. Care may be provided to patients in a variety of settings, i.e. Ambulatory Care Including but not limited to primary care, specialty care, mental health, surgery, special procedures, and Home/ and Community Based Care.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, outstanding customer service, and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the veteran
  • Following, participating and contributing to the plan of care as designated by the RN and interdisciplinary team in accordance with recognized nursing standards.
  • Assisting the RN by engaging in nursing practice which incorporates knowledge and skills related to assessing client condition to include but not limited to pain assessment, documentation of pain assessment/evaluation in the medical record and accurate transcription, administration, and documentation of medication according to established procedures.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and integrity of all client data including but not limited to verbal, written or electronic forms of personal health information.
  • Participating and communication with team members, clients/customers in a courteous, tactful and helpful manner to facilitate the accomplishment of the work of the organization.
  • Consistently implementing safety and infection control measures according to client needs
  • Utilizing correct body mechanics with no occurrence of on-the-job injury resulting from negligence or carelessness
  • Understanding and acknowledging the purpose of teamwork in the assignment of work practices and one's role in the teamwork according to the client's individual needs
  • Keeping current with new procedures or technology to ensure better health outcomes for the client
  • Actively developing and maintaining positive relationships with team members while seeking to maintain or improve skills
  • Effectively handling conflict, de-escalating as necessary and seeking guidance as needed from supervisor
  • Cleaning and sanitizing exam rooms and supplies each time patient care is rendered
  • Proper maintenance, disinfection and use of negative pressure rooms with the identification of different precautions based on the client needs
Work Schedule: Fulltime, Monday thru Friday 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of existing pay, higher or unique qualifications, or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).

Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)

Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.

Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
