The Head of Business & Product Risk Management is responsible for directing and managing the integration of Operational Risk Management activities for Wholesale Non-Financial Risk (NFR), with a focus on Global Banking risks. TheWholesale model consists of the Commercial and Global Banking businesses and various product partners.The role will lead the control team in embedding of Operational Risk Management Framework activities and engagement with the front office staff to ensure active identification, management, and escalation of key risk.This is a first Line of defense remit and established as a function, within the Wholesale Chief Operating Office (WCOO) structure, more formally aligned to the Group Non-Financial Risk (NFR) model.This role will also act as the Global NFR Lead for Leveraged Acquisition Finance (LAF).LAF is responsible for the arrangement, underwriting and syndication of event-driven and flow lending solutions for HSBC Group's corporate and financial sponsor clients. The role holder will be responsible for leading and managing the NFR framework for LAF globally, working closely with other global product, regional GB/Product and broader NFR stakeholders.

Global Leveraged & Acquisition Finance ('LAF') is a key product within the Investment Banking business. LAF is responsible for the arrangement, underwriting and syndication of event-driven and flow lending solutions for HSBC Group's corporate and financial sponsor clients.

Here's what you can expect:

  • Actively Manage - Lead the team working on controls to support three business in managing and identifying risk, in addition to supporting the three lines of defense model.
  • Analysis - Lead team in providing feedback on proposed operational risk policy for the business and product partners and likely impacts. Provide guidance to Risk Owners and Control Owners in adhering to the Operational Risk Management Framework (ORMF) and operational risk policies.

Challenge -Provide day to day oversight and challenge to the senior heads of the business/risk owners.

Subject Matter Expertise -This includes all activity related to risk and control oversight generally, and the provision of senior SME product support.

  • Deliver a demanding NFR agenda in a complex regulatory operating environment in which the businesses (as part of a scale market) are investing for sustainable growth and increased technology deployments.
  • Establish and drive the day-to-day operation and oversight of a robust and efficient end to end control environment globally, to ensure strong operational and non-financial risk management, looking at risk specifically through a product lens
  • Work closely with the Global Head of LAF to identify and pro-actively manage current and emerging risks related to changes to services/products, processes and systems delivered or impacting LAF specifically and/or across Investment Banking

Oversee the production of risk and control management metrics (KPIs/KRIs) and regularly articulate the findings and recommendations to relevant senior audiences; represent and deliver information into broader governance forums.

Operations- Engage with relevant Risk Stewards to contribute to a standard Risk and Control Library for the businesses, as requested by a Risk/Control Owner.

Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify ways to track and provide advice on the completion of management response actions, ensure timely and accurate recording in the operational risk management system, HELIOS. Provide advice to the Risk Owners to support them in setting risk appetite.

Strategy- Execute oversight and embeddedness as required with oversight reviews relating to risks and controls, for example with respect to tracking remediation activities. Proactively identify risk in the business prior to it arising, work with business to ensure appropriately scoped risk identification and remediation.

Communication - Deliver recommendations, produce operational risk reporting and insight based on results from the Risk and Control Assessment process used for Risk Owners, Control Owners and wider stakeholders or governance. Escalate top and emerging operational risks working with Risk Owners.

For this role, HSBC targets a fixed pay range between $174,300 and $305,000.

The final fixed pay offer will depend on the candidate and a number of variables, including but not limited to, role responsibilities, skill set, depth of experience and education, licensing/certification requirements, internal relativity, and specific work location.

You'll likely have the following qualifications to succeed in this role:

  • An individual who has a deep understanding of global banking products. Subject matter expertise in Leveraged Acquisition Finance (LAF).
  • An individual with experience in banking products and services, with a strong understanding of client and business needs.
  • Strong communication skills and deep understanding of end-to-end risk management.
  • The ability to lead a team in operational risk management.
  • The ability to support and guide the Wholesale businesses and various product partners in its management of operational risk appetite, ensuring they operate in compliance, with operational risk framework and standards in a multi-geographic, Matrix organization.
  • A strong capability in translating analysis results into strategic business recommendations.
  • A strong ability to develop, maintain constructive relationships with US Operational Risk teams and other 'second line of defense' teams, along with various Global partners, and others for operational risk and internal control matters across all levels and geographies of the bank.
  • Ability to pro-actively apply knowledge of the ORMF in line with the core activities.
