Job Description

Gilead is dedicated to finding, developing, and providing therapies that will enhance the lives of patients worldwide who are suffering from serious illnesses. Gilead Sciences is currently seeking a IT Data Engineering Specialist to join the Data and AI Platform team. This position is crucial as it involves creating and implementing machine learning solutions, offering technical proposals and reviews for different business areas within Gilead (such as Commercial, CDS, PDM), and exploring innovative approaches to modernize their technology stack, like Generative AI. The ideal candidate should have strong opinions on how Data Science and Machine Learning should be applied, following MLOps principles, while also being receptive to feedback from colleagues. Leading by example is highly valued as the team works towards standardizing the development process of solutions. This role will collaborate with various cross-functional teams at Gilead Sciences and key stakeholders. Effectively communicating technical information to individuals with diverse technical backgrounds is crucial in this role.

Specific duties, job functions:

Implement machine learning solutions as directed by product owners.
Design machine learning pipelines, encompassing data preparation, feature engineering, model training, experimental tracking, model registry, model inference, and addressing performance and scalability requirements.
Participate in and lead code reviews focused on ensuring code correctness, efficiency, robustness, and readability.
Propose and advocate for development and deployment standards, including patterns, processes, and tools.
Deploy machine learning solutions in the Cloud (e.g., databricks / AWS sagemaker).
Communicate with business stakeholders regarding proposed designs, delivery timelines, and breaking projects into manageable tasks within agile sprints.
Utilize agile sprints to effectively manage tasks and projects.

Basic Qualifications

Master's degree in a technical field like mathematics, statistics, computer science, computer engineering, and related disciplines with atleast 2 years of experience

OR
Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline and a minimum of 4 years of experience in developing machine learning solutions
Experience in building machine learning solutions using AWS Sagemaker and Databricks.
Experience in creating developer documentation using tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and GitHub.
Proficiency in Python or a similar language, with familiarity in Python.
Proficiency in SQL.
Experience in building CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or a similar tool.
Proficiency in managing code collaboratively using GitHub.
Familiarity with agile development methodologies.
Experience in building unit and integration test suites for machine learning solutions.
Experience in modeling highly dimensional data.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience in the biotech industry or another industry with stringent regulations.
Proficiency in NLP (Natural Language Processing) and image processing.
Familiarity with MLOps (Machine Learning Operations) practices and methodologies.

The salary range for this position is: $97, $126, Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
