Job Description: 


We are seeking an AI/ML Lead/Director/Co-founder to join our visionary team and lead the development of a groundbreaking AI engine built using on-device Small Language Models (SLMs). This role offers a unique opportunity to drive innovation at the intersection of artificial intelligence and healthcare. 


In this position, you will be at the forefront of developing, improving, and exploring the capabilities of on-device SLMs to solve complex real-world problems. Your work will focus on creating Conversation AI products designed to transform the healthcare experience for patients and providers. 


Key Research Areas: 


  • Alignment and Post-training: Instruction tuning and reinforcement learning from human and model feedback. 
  • Continual Learning: Enabling on-device SLMs to evolve and adapt over time, learning from previous experiences and human interactions. 
  • Specialization: Tailoring on-device SLMs to meet domain-specific requirements and training on domain-specific knowledge. 
  • Efficiency: Optimizing the computational efficiency and cost-effectiveness of on-device SLM deployments. 


Required Qualifications: 


  • PhD in Computer Science, AI/ML, Data Science, or a related field  

(preference would be given for graduates from the following U.S. universities: Carnegie Mellon University, MIT, Stanford University, UC Berkeley, University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign, Cornell University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Columbia University, UCLA, UC San Diego, California Institute of Technology, or Harvard University) 

  • Less than 2 years out of graduation, with 0-1 year of industry or academic postdoc experience in NLP and ML. 
  • 3+ years of overall experience in AI/ML, with a focus on SLMs, NLPs, RAGs, knowledge graphs, and on-device SLM technologies. 
  • Expertise in training (pre-training/fine-tuning/RLHF) autoregressive language models like LLaMA, Falcon, GPT-x family, etc. 
  • Proficiency with AI/ML tools and frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Hugging Face, Neo4j, graph-based databases, and on-device machine learning tools (e.g., TensorFlow Lite, Core ML). 
  • Strong programming skills in Python, with experience in cloud-based AI development (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and on-device AI deployment. 
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex AI concepts into business values. 
  • Experience in healthcare or life sciences is a plus. 

 

Responsibilities: 

 

Strategic Leadership: 

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of AI/ML models focused on on-device SLMs, NLPs, RAGs, and knowledge graphs. 
  • Drive the AI/ML architecture decisions, ensuring scalability, efficiency, and integration with existing systems. 
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, engineering, and data science, to align AI strategies with business objectives. 

 

Technical Expertise: 

  • Develop and optimize AI/ML pipelines, leveraging SOTA tools and frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Hugging Face. 
  • Implement NLP models for advanced text analysis, summarization, and conversational AI applications. 
  • Design and deploy knowledge graphs to enhance data-driven insights and decision-making processes. 
  • Explore and integrate RAG techniques to improve information retrieval and contextual understanding in AI applications. 
  • Develop and optimize on-device SLMs to enable AI functionalities directly on user devices, ensuring low latency, privacy, and real-time processing. 

 

Innovation and Research: 

  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in AI/ML, NLP, KGs, and on-device SLM technologies, and apply them to solve complex healthcare challenges. 
  • Conduct research and development to explore novel AI techniques and tools, ensuring Zoom My Life remains at the forefront of health AI innovation. 
  • Mentor and guide a team of AI/ML engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and experimentation. 


Other Requirements: 


  • Strong preference for individuals who can work onsite in our San Jose, CA HQ, but we will consider candidates throughout the U.S.
