Position Overview:

The School Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) will work with students from preschool through high school to diagnose and treat speech, language, and communication disorders. The SLP will collaborate with educators, parents, and other professionals to create and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to each student's needs, helping them achieve their academic and social potential.


Work Environment:

The School Speech-Language Pathologist will primarily work in various school settings within Aurora, Colorado, including elementary, middle, and high schools. The role may require travel between schools and the ability to adapt to different environments and student needs.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assessment and Diagnosis: Conduct comprehensive evaluations to identify speech, language, and communication disorders in students. Use standardized tests and observational methods to assess student needs.
  • Intervention and Treatment: Develop and implement individualized treatment plans. Provide therapy sessions to address articulation, fluency, voice, language, and communication issues.
  • IEP Development: Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to develop and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Ensure goals are measurable and tailored to each student's needs.
  • Collaboration: Work with classroom teachers, special education staff, and other school personnel to integrate speech and language goals into the student's daily activities. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and provide professional advice on communication-related issues.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records of evaluations, treatment plans, progress notes, and other required documentation. Ensure compliance with school district, state, and federal regulations.
  • Professional Development: Stay current with advancements in the field of speech-language pathology through continuous education and professional development opportunities. Apply new techniques and methodologies as appropriate.
  • Family Engagement: Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, treatment plans, and ways to support communication goals at home. Provide training and resources to help families reinforce speech and language development.
  • Advocacy and Support: Advocate for students' needs within the school system. Provide support and training to teachers and other staff members on speech and language development and strategies to support communication in the classroom.


Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
  • Current Colorado state licensure in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
  • Experience working in a school setting preferred.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of special education laws and regulations (IDEA, IEP process).
  • Proficiency in assessment and treatment of a wide range of speech and language disorders.
