SUMMARY

Buttonwood Capital Management (“BCM” or the “Company”) is a family office dedicated to stewarding the resources of its founding family and their descendants (together, the “Families”) by providing personalized administrative support, bespoke financial advice, and investment execution.


The Controller is responsible for oversight of the investment accounting and financial services functions of BCM in service of the Families. The Controller’s job duties will have an emphasis on financial reporting and accounting processes.


We are seeking a forward-thinking, positive, lighthearted individual, with proactive organizational abilities and meticulous attention to detail, who will act as a trusted and strategic partner to BCM and its Families.


RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop expertise in the Company’s general ledger, and integrated reporting systems in order to ensure integrity of transactions and data in a multi-layered ownership environment.


Develop, prepare, analyze, and review standard and ad hoc financial reports for multiple entities. These reports will include, among others:

  • Family net worth reports
  • Financial statements and cash flow projections for the families
  • Financial statements and annual budgets for BCM
  • Financial statements for key operating entities
  • Trust accounting reports, including coordination of tax manager review
  • Investment report
  • Performance reports and evaluations
  • Asset holding reports
  • Daily and weekly cash management activities and reports
  • Investment and bank reconciliations
  • Pooled accounting for cash and marketable securities
  • Aircraft usage reports
  • Political reports
  • SERP plan reporting.


Monitor existing internal controls.


Will have both an active and supervisory role in:

  • Review and approval of daily cash management activities
  • Review of operating account disbursements
  • Review and preparation of general ledger postings and reconciliations
  • Preparation, analysis, and review of pooled accounting for cash and marketable securities
  • Review of private equity portfolio activity and reporting
  • General ledger maintenance


Assist with various accounting and finance related projects, including, but not limited to:

  • Process improvement and efficiency initiatives
  • Development of new internal controls as new systems are implemented


Coordinate processes for personal asset management, including:

  • Ensuring up-to-date and appropriate insurance for all personal assets
  • Assisting with asset sale/purchase transactions
  • Maintaining accurate and meticulous records for all personal assets


Lead and/or assist with additional projects, initiatives, and duties as assigned.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred
  • Minimum of 5+ years accounting experience.
  • Hands-on, highly collaborative, and comfortable in a high growth, dynamic, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Working knowledge of accounting systems, relational database concepts and applications, along with other database reporting tools
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills. Strong interpersonal skills and emotional maturity.
  • Excellent strategic planning and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical thinker and creative problem-solver.
  • Experience in leveraging and maximizing technology solutions to create a highly efficient operational environment required.
  • Must be highly self-motivated with a keen sense of urgency and solution orientation.
  • Superior judgment and comfort level working with confidential, sensitive, and proprietary information, as well as an uncompromised commitment to the highest level of integrity and confidentiality.
