ROLE OVERVIEW and PURPOSE
The Clinician Lead - Pediatrics will provide professional supervision for the Neighborhood Healthcare Pediatrics Department. This role will provide pediatrics perspective to existing aspects of patient care to improve quality management. Additionally, this role will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate all aspects of pediatric care/services delivered and ensure quality programs, patient safety, and high level of customer service.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct Care:
- Perform direct care for patients and strive for model productivity, quality, and patient experience while managing a pediatric panel
- Serves as an advocate for difficult patients by managing a patient panel with excellence and efficiency
- Impacts the patient experience by demonstrating courteous and helpful behavior and a commitment to quality
- Share accountability for overall patient health outcomes by working in coordination with quality management efforts, care teams and population health staff
- Coordinates continued care for patients who request alternative primary care providers
- Operates to instill confidence in our care and in our facilities to patients, fellow employees, and other stakeholders
Site, Cross-Organizational Practice Management, and Support:
- Represents medical staff with the organization with purpose of attracting and retaining the highest quality medical teams
- Develop and establish clinical guidelines based on evidence-based recommendations to ensure alignment of clinical practices with industry standards and best practices
- Oversee Pediatrics Department, including providing quality medical care, planning/evaluating services, and providing pediatric expertise to the organization
- Serve as a resource to regional medical staff and others regarding policies, procedures, various funding sources for pediatrics
- Works with the ACMO and other key staff to ensure all program and regulatory guidelines are met
- Submits RMD training needs and requests to ACMO
- Works with ACMO and others to foster graduate medical education and mid-level student training efforts
- Works with site managers and DOs to monitor site productivity and performance, including financial quality and patient experience
- Makes recommendations or changes to increase patient show rates, improve patient flow, and maximize provider productivity, such as pediatric quality improvement activities and plans
- Oversees the development of standards and uniform treatment policies and procedures to assure they are inclusive of the knowledge and values for pediatrics
- Coordinates and integrates pediatrics with other patient care services to provide an integrated continuum of care for patients
- Ensures appropriate and optimal utilization of pediatric services by identifying and researching best practices and working with clinical staff and interdisciplinary teams to make appropriate procedural, clinical, and operational decisions for patients
- Acts as liaison with physician groups, specialists, and hospitals to represent NHC Pediatrics, including providing pediatric services education, ensuring quality health care services, and assure good provider relationships to generate referrals
- Participates in leadership, CQI, Admin QI, wellness, RMD/RDO Dyad, RMD, and other meetings and trainings determined by ACMO and c-suite
- Serves on Quality Management Committee and analyze/resolve quality management issues and unusual occurrence reports, as needed
- Works with PCMH project coordinators and site manager to implement and sustain the PCMH model, care transformation efforts, and value-based care initiatives
- Communicates medical staffing issues and professional conduct expectations to ACMO, RMDs, site managers, HR, and other impacted management teams
- Works with clinical supervisors and managers, patient navigation center managers, and RNs to create activities for staff to foster new relationships across all teams
Supervision
- Recommends or make decisions to hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, and discipline
- Assess training needs and promotes developmental activities
- Works with training staff to provide seamless onboarding and new hire orientation for new medical staff
- Conducts regular clinical evaluations of pediatricians to ensure adherence to quality standards and job description criteria/competencies
- Provides guidance and coaching to develop individuals and departments to highest potential
- Works with site managers and other RMDs to ensure mechanism for follow-ups on studies/labs order by schedule per diem providers
- Conducts department meetings to promote communication, assess and resolve needs, and foster a collaborative and supportive environment
- Informs staff of organizational activities and promotes NHC’s mission and goals
Customer Relations
- Responds promptly and with caring actions to patients and employees
- Maintains professional working relationships with all levels of staff, clients, and the public
- Cooperates in accomplishing department goals and objectives
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Doctorate in medicine is required
- California Medical license in good standing is required
- Valid CA DEA license required
- Valid BLS certification from approved American Health Association provider required upon hire
- Board certification in pediatrics preferred
- Five years’ pediatric medicine experience required
- Two years’ experience managing providers and healthcare programs; pediatric healthcare preferred
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams preferred
- Managed care experience preferred
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including superior composition, typing and proofreading skills
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Knowledgeable about and experience with implementing and managing pediatric healthcare services
- Ability to understand pediatric medical management processes
- Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Excellent planning and organizational ability
- Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently
- Able to perform at high level of autonomy for clinical and management decisions
- Ability to work with highly confidential information in a professional and ethical manner
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift/carry 15 lbs/weight
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
COMPLIANCE (Safety & HIPPA)
- Follows all safety procedures as outlined in Neighborhood Healthcare’s Illness and Injury Prevention Plan (IIPP) and report any injuries and/or unsafe conditions immediately
- Maintains current knowledge of policies and procedures as they relate to safe work practices

- Familiarity with location of nearest fire extinguisher and emergency exits
- Follows all infection control procedures including blood-borne pathogen protocols
- Maintains privacy of all patients, employee and volunteer information and access such information only on a need-to-know basis for business purposes
- Complies with all regulations regarding corporate integrity and security obligations
- Reports all behavior and/or activity that are unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful
Pay Range: $295,500 to $375,094 per year, Depends on Experience (DOE)
