About Baldwin Institute

The Baldwin Institute, a nonprofit organization, was conceived a few years ago and is now actively engaged in its mission in coordination with Baldwin's centennial. We provide transformative educational experiences rooted in the legacy of James Baldwin, focusing on Black cultural heritage while fostering critical thinking and creative expression in underserved youth. We envision a future where all young people, especially those from underserved backgrounds, access diverse educational opportunities that empower them to become leaders and innovators, celebrating a wide spectrum of cultural and intellectual pursuits.

Our mission is anchored in the preservation and celebration of Black cultural heritage, guided by James Baldwin's legacy. By fostering community engagement, advancing educational opportunities, and supporting career development for underserved youth, the Institute empowers young minds to explore their creative potential and contribute to the cultural landscape.

Position Summary

The Program Manager will be essential in overseeing the development, launch, and scaling of our flagship programs—Baldwin’s Gateway, Pantheon of Voices, Jazz & Heritage, Miseducation(s), and Creative Futures. Working closely with the Founder, this role will require a strategic thinker with exceptional organizational skills who can translate program concepts into actionable plans, ensure seamless implementation, and adapt programs for the diverse schools we partner with.

Key Responsibilities

Program Development & Rollout

  • Collaborate with the Founder to conceptualize and refine program frameworks aligned with the Baldwin Institute’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Develop and maintain a rollout calendar for each program, ensuring timely execution and efficient management of program milestones.
  • Right-size programs to fit the specific needs and contexts of the schools and communities we serve, including determining the appropriate scale, resource allocation, and delivery models for each institution.

Stakeholder Engagement & Management

  • Act as the primary point of contact for schools, community partners, and other stakeholders involved in program delivery.
  • Foster relationships with educators, school administrators, and institutional partners, ensuring alignment on program goals and execution.
  • Represent the Baldwin Institute in discussions with institutional partners, advocating for program needs, addressing challenges, and collecting feedback to inform continuous improvement.

Program Operations & Logistics

  • Oversee the logistics for program implementation, coordinating with internal and external partners to manage scheduling, resources, and participant engagement.
  • Track program metrics, including attendance, feedback, and outcomes, to measure program impact and identify areas for enhancement.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Associate to ensure alignment across programs and maintain a coherent operational strategy.

Evaluation & Reporting

  • Collect, analyze, and report on program data, providing insights to the Founder and board members to inform strategic decisions and demonstrate program impact.
  • Ensure alignment with funding requirements, providing timely updates to stakeholders and funders as needed.

Compensation and Benefits

Once transitioned to full-time, the Program Manager role includes:

  • Salary: $95,000 annually
  • Health Benefits: Full medical, dental, and vision coverage (covered by the Institute)
  • Retirement: 401K coverage and matching contributions
  • Paid Time Off:
  • Thanksgiving week, Labor Day week, and the last two weeks of the year off
  • 3 weeks of paid vacation
  • Professional & Cultural Enrichment:
  • $1,000 tech voucher every other year
  • Professional development stipend
  • Annual book and cultural excursion vouchers

Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of experience in program management, preferably within nonprofit, educational, or cultural institutions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Master’s preferred) or equivalent experience.
  • Strong understanding of Black cultural heritage, social justice, and educational programming.
  • Proven experience working with diverse communities and managing stakeholder relationships.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in project management software, Microsoft Office Suite, and relevant online tools.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
