Job Title: Solar Installer - Certified Electrician (Journeyman)

Status: Full-Time

Location: Carlsbad, CA (multiple project sites). Must be in Carlsbad, CA to visit client sites and report to Carlsbad, office. This is not open to remote workers.

Reports to: Senior Project Manager

Pay Range: $40/hr - $50/hr (commensurate with experience) – though company will pay prevailing wages applicable to scheduled jobs

Position Overview:

The Certified Electrician (Journeyman) will support the installation and maintenance of commercial solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, EV charging stations, and battery energy storage systems. This role will ensure all electrical work adheres to safety standards, state certification requirements, the National Electrical Code (NEC), and project-specific plans. The Certified Electrician will be assigned to multiple projects and will devote most of the time to the project site when construction is ongoing.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Electrical Installations:
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems and equipment for commercial solar PV, EV chargers, and battery energy storage systems.
  • Install electrical panels, conduit, wiring, inverters, transformers, and related equipment per design specifications, electrical codes, and industry best practices.
  • Compliance & Safety:
  • Ensure all electrical work complies with California’s Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) requirements, the NEC, and company policies.
  • Follow OSHA standards and company-specific safety protocols; promote a safety-first work environment.
  • Conduct inspections, testing, and troubleshooting of systems to ensure compliance, optimal operation, and safety standards are met.
  • System Commissioning & Troubleshooting:
  • Support commissioning activities for new solar installations, battery energy storage systems, and EV chargers.
  • Diagnose and repair system malfunctions or failures, including inverter faults, connection issues, or wiring failures.
  • Perform regular inspections and maintenance of installed systems, ensuring proper operation and adherence to performance standards.
  • Coordination & Documentation:
  • Collaborate with other electricians, solar technicians, project managers, and subcontractors to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals for electrical systems.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, including as-built drawings, electrical inspection reports, and service records.


Qualifications:

  • Certified General Electrician in the State of California (Required). (Needs to be Journeyman card vs Trainee.) This is a hard requirement due to contractual compliance needs.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in electrical work, preferably with experience in commercial solar PV, EV charger installation, and/or battery storage systems.
  • Strong understanding of electrical principles, NEC codes, and relevant electrical and building codes in California.
  • Experience working with AC and DC electrical systems, including inverters, transformers, and electrical panels.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and structural plans.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA safety standards.
  • Valid California driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites across California as required.
  • Physical ability to perform work on ladders, roofs, and other elevated areas, lift objects up to 50 lbs., and work outdoors in varying conditions.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with solar PV installations, battery storage, and EV charger systems.
  • Certifications in OSHA safety standards, CPR/First Aid, and forklift operations are highly desirable.
