This position requires a detail-oriented individual with strong communication skills and a deep understanding of medical billing practices.


Responsibilities:

  • Patient Accounting System: Perform all required duties within the patient accounting system, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Charge Determination: Accurately determine appropriate charges based on services provided to ensure proper billing.
  • Customer Service: Serve as a primary source for customer service assistance, ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Call Center Operations: Handle a high volume of incoming customer service calls in a call-center like environment.
  • Claims Review: Analyze explanations of benefits from third-party payers to verify correct payment and identify any denials that can be re-billed.
  • Report Management: Maintain and analyze reports to ensure timely submission of claims.
  • Problem Resolution: Identify problem accounts requiring further action and provide necessary information to insurance carriers or patients regarding their accounts.
  • Patient Assistance: Assist patients with billing inquiries and problems, providing clear and helpful information.
  • Supervisor Notification: Alert the supervisor of any ongoing billing issues or concerns.
  • Documentation Maintenance: Keep organized files of all relevant documentation, including charge slips, explanations of benefits, and patient information.
  • Report Preparation: Prepare and distribute reports as needed.
  • Collections Referral: Refer delinquent accounts to collections in accordance with company policy.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.


Position Details:

  • Salary Range: $21.50 – $25.00 Hourly


Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred:
  • Certificate or Diploma in Medical Billing and Coding from an accredited institution (6 months to 1 year program).
  • Associate degree in Health Information Technology, Medical Billing and Coding, or a related field (2-year program).
  • Certifications (Highly Recommended):
  • Certified Professional Biller (CPB) from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
  • Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) from the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
  • Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist (CMRS) from the American Medical Billing Association (AMBA).
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) from AAPC.
  • Experience: At least two years of recent professional medical billing collection experience and two years of customer service experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Insurance Knowledge: Working experience with Medi-Cal, Medicare, HMO, and PPO insurances.
  • Technical Skills: Experience using online payer sites to check claim status, denials, and eligibility.
  • Software Proficiency: Knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Coding Knowledge: Familiarity with CPT, ICD-10, and HCPC codes.
  • Multitasking Ability: Must be an effective multi-tasker to meet daily production and quality standards.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Critical Thinking: Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Active Listening: Proficient in active listening to understand and address patient and customer needs effectively.
